Chip Brown chimes in from the Big 12 perspective; does ACC need to act?
I know he's UT's mouthpiece, but it seems he has talked a variety of Big 12 school in this article. I don't think an ACC school leaves outright, could move in if the B1G and SEC tries to make a move. Does the ACC need to stage a preemptive act of some sort on their own (get definitive network $, add schools), or simply wait because the Big 12 isn't sure they want to expand?

One nugget:
"Multiple sources in the Big 12 told Orangebloods.com on Wednesday the Big Ten has tried to gauge the interest of Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia about possibly joining Maryland in the Big Ten. But the sources said those schools have indicated to the Big Ten thanks but no thanks - for now."

RE: Chip Brown chimes in from the Big 12 perspective; does ACC need to act?
I've been wrong before, but I just don't see the SEC, B1G or PAC acting to get to 16 without either Texas or Oklahoma. While I think the SEC & B1G might have a good chance at certain ACC teams, I don't think any will be that tempted by the Big12, even if more money's available there (for now). It would be a very short-sighted move, and I think all ACC institutions exemplify the kind of excellence that looks at the big picture.

Louisville didn't exactly have a choice, but chances were that if we waited long enough, our Big12 invite would eventually have come. I strongly believe that had it come at the same time the one from the ACC arrived, we'd still have chosen the latter. As an outsider still looking in for another year, my respect for the ACC completely eclipses any respect I have (or ever have had) for the Big12. I know I'm not the only Card fan who'd say that.

Chip Brown needs to be worried about "what if Texas decides it wants to play with ACC schools in the manner of ND".

The ACC is safe. West Virginia and Iowa State need rags for the sweat.

Invite 7 Big12 schools and start three divisions of 7. Have a conf playoff w/ division champs and wildcard.

Definately in
Texas
Oklahoma
Kansas

Probably in
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Texas Tech

Flip a coin
WVU
TCU

Don't really care about
ISU
Baylor

IMO, the ACC needs to do this, then add WVU.

If Texas is willing to do a Indy Football schedule then I guess its cool. I just think Texas is content being the Big Dawg in the Big XII.

Short of getting a Grant-of-Rights in place, I don't see what else the ACC can do at this point to stop the speculation. The ACC recently added Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, and ND (partial). That hasn't helped. These additions will raise our ESPN contract value and there is talk of Swofford getting an ACC Network in place, but that hasn't stopped the rumors either. The best pre-emptive act IMO is for all ACC schools to prove their commitment to the Conference by signing a G-O-R.

I tend to think that nothing will stop the speculation especially when these rumors are really coming from a handful of WVU guys. And then those rumors spread like a wildfire. Its just the unstable CFB world we live in right now. Until things actually stabilize we'll be hearing these same rumors. IDK even a GOR will end the speculation.

Yeh, we could all get an almighty grant of rights for show. Reality is that it doesn't keep anyone from moving either.

I think the best thing the ACC should do is try and develop their own TV network (with ESPN) and a digital platform. Its a matter of building the brand and increasing revenue for all the schools. Until the ACC takes concrete steps to do this, the SEC and B1G can swoop in and take whoever they want. Their revenues will far exceed the ACC in the future (B1G is currently far exceeding the ACC right now).

I'm just not convinced the GOR is the silver bullet that'll kill all the speculation.

An ACC network might be a much better guarantor of our stability, and besides, I think the kind of stuff that's offered on such a network is the kind of stuff that the ACC excels in. Louisville may not play it, but I'd rather watch UVA & Syracuse play men's Lax on an ACC network than watch Penn State & Minnesota in a wrestling match, which is pretty much the highlight of the BTN.

There is some rumor I saw on the GT board that someone on the FSU board said that some of the insiders were contacted by legal and shut down. There was supposedly a line they had crossed.

Maybe that is what it would take. Hold internet rumor mongers to press standards.

I guess that could be a good idea 4x4. Because whats really to stop me and 6 Pitt guys from starting a PSU to ACC rumor every other month if there isn't something like this in place. Heck you, a Cuse guy or 2, and others could join in on the fun. Gullible people on the internet buy anything like Statefarm's "French Model".

The ACC should offer Texas the same deal as Notre Dame. Texas' ego is so big, they would love to be told they're worthy of the same treatment as Notre Dame. It would eliminate the Big XII as a threat forever.

The WVU Scout Board has multiple posters who claimed multiple times "If the ACC were really stable, they would sign a GOR. That would end all speculation."

I agree with you that they would find some way to spin an ACC GOR, but it would be fun watching the contortions as they tried to change their positions so drastically.

RE: Chip Brown chimes in from the Big 12 perspective; does ACC need to act?
Many of us have monitored this realignment stuff for years now, and guys like Chip Brown, Greg Swaim, yoda man, the dude, and other online guys are just trying to get web hits. They know that meetings are coming up in the Big 12, or they know this group was together, etc so they attempt to take advantage of it for their websites/radio shows and it works usually. But none of them have come through ahead of time with accurate news. I still wait for the McMurphy's of the world to report news, because you don't see him or a few others just coming up with crap predictions or nonsense like this latest round. Every actual move has more or less surprised everyone especially the ones spouting off the most.

I'll wait for now.

I think after the ACC meetings next week, you'll see conference tv channel news, division lineups, scheduling tidbits, and that's about it come out.

The ACC is safe. West Virginia and Iowa State need rags for the sweat.

With you up to the point where WVU is involved.

The ACC has Louisville, Pitt and VT -- with those three, there is no need academically or TV market-wise for WVU.

Agreed. I'd rather have Cincinnati - get into the state of Ohio for recruiting - REALLY make the B1G and Jim Delaney mad! 05-stirthepot

I am of the opinion that the reason that schools like FSU and Clemson are against the GOR or like the idea out there that they are flirting with moving is to exert pressure on Swofford and the ACC to get some football oriented changes. Once they sign a GOR and are locked into place then their ideas for changes fall on deaf ears.
