Ours certainly could have been better, but blowing the ULM game really put the season in a tailspin. Next year has a lot of potential depending on how the OOC goes.

On a side note, I wish that many years ago, before Diddle are Smith were renovated and before the new structure was built that WKU had just built a domed all sports arena. Nothing huge (between 30k-40k). We have too many fair weather fans (in the literal sense). Hindsight is 20/20.

Off the subject a little, how in the world is Eastern Michigan allowed to still play FBS football with an average of less than 4k, that is pathetic!

I agree the causual fans (aka UK fans) lost interest after we lost Homecoming, but I would guess that was only a couple of thousand staying away..BG and area does not turn out in Novemember for football regardless if we are winning or not..When the weather gets under 50 degrees, BG does not show up for a football game..I am interested to see if Petrino being here will cause our attend to go over 10k in Nov, that will tell us what kind of difference petrino makes, (and spring game too)...If we have a respectable record too by Nov.....

Your comment about the weather is true and somewhat unbeleivable to me. I guess I was raised following football rather than basketball so the idea of suffering through bad weather to watch a game is not a deterrent to me. But I was so dissappointed in the attendance for the last home game this year. My crew tailgated in that 28 degree weather and had a great time. My thought at the time was that the players and coaches who bust their butts all year deserve our support no matter what the weather is.
It is interesting if you look at the attendance for USF at the mid 40's in a 3-9 year. I know that Florida was home and the pay was a little better than what WKU could have come up with, however, I feel that the mediocre attendance in a year in which the team made strides and had some historic accomplishments was also a factor in his decision to leave.

RE: 2012 College football regular-season attendance.
If WKU could get people in Bowling Green to come out in Nov, we would have averaged close to 20k...to me just seems like excuse after excuse when it comes down to it for Nov. attendence and football games with really only one cold game this season (senior day when were there were less than 4k there)...but its thanksgiving weekend, but it this, but its that, that is all we hear on why no one goes to Nov. football games in bowling green...We will know when we have finally arrived in FBS when we have above 5k show up on senior day if its cold, if that happens than Petrino can walk on water, haha.....Could be worse, we could be Eastern Michigan, I would like to see attendence based on percentage of capacity, we might be ranked higher up in that category since we can only hold around 23k right now in our stadium....

At 27,964, App's regular season numbers (not factoring in our playoff crowd of 16,719) would be 13th among the group of five and 80th overall. Over our 24,050 capacity by 3,914. 116 percent???

Where's the WAC attendance?

Idaho and NMSU were not Indy for 2012 and you're missing the other WAC teams (um, like TXST)

20,054 for Ga Southern during the regular season. That would put us just ahead of Tulsa and 6th of 13 teams in CUSA.

RE: 2012 College football regular-season attendance.
I find it interesting that you put 2013 CUSA members in but not 2013 Sun Belt teams. I've remedied that. I rounded up when the average came to a decimal. I used wikipedia for the attendance calculations. Source. Source. Source. For teams other than USA, TxSt, GST, I used the info from the first and second posts.

Average attendance for Sun Belt

01.) Arkansas State - 26,398
02.) Louisiana-Monroe - 24,981
03.) Louisiana-Lafayette - 22,865
04.) Troy - 20,952
05.) Texas State - 18,445
06.) Western Kentucky - 17,415
07.) South Alabama - 16,794
08.) Georgia State - 12,309

Average for entire conference - 20,012

Monroe isn't that high... Take out their "home" game with Arkansas and they are behind Troy in attendance.
