Big 4 expanding???
Was going to put this on my other thread but thought this needed its own.
The MWC presidents are getting rumblings about a possible expansion of one of the major conferences. No one is 100% sure who and all is involved this time (just like the rest of us). I've been told that the MWC is ready to make swift decisions in the event something unfolds as they believe this one to be credible.
It could be one of the rumors we've all read about or could be a surprise (Maryland/Rutgers). I think nothing happens until the Maryland/ACC suit settles.
But I did find it interesting that the MWC presidents are hearing things and think something is coming sooner than later.

Interesting - not unexpected, but interesting.
I am very curious about your source(s) or your connection to the MWC to be privy to this info. Could you enlighten us a little?
Thanks for posting!

Your posts have been credible in the past. I assumed you had a friend in the Wyoming(?) AD's office.
Any idea WHICH conference? The ACC (Virginia, etc.), the Big XII (Florida State, etc.), or the SEC (North Carolina, etc.)?

Any expansion outside of the PAC12 spells out another disaster for the BE. The ACC is on the chopping block now and any loss there to the Power4 means they will have to add UCONN and Cincy. My thoughts are the B12 because of the statement a few days ago that they "would be proactive in expansion."

RE: Big 4 expanding???
It's probably the BigXII.
I think the MW is safe from this round unless the PAC12 comes calling, which I doubt. The BigXII will probably grab a couple ACC teams. The ACC will respond by taking Cincinnati and UCONN and the Big East will implode.
The MW may have an opportunity to grab a couple Texas schools if that happens.

I think all reasonable nBE fans know that any expansion of a power conference in the east will cause trickle down damage to the nBE. Personally, I expect at least 2 more nBE schools to be gone by summer. I guess its always possible that nothing happens, but I personally consider just losing 2 more the best case senario for the nBE. It may be much worse that that.

I get the feeling that if anymore nBE loses anyone else, there is a very high chance that Houston cuts ties with the nBE.

We all have to do what is best for our teams and if the nBE takes more hits, I really think it will survive. Just not as strong. With the BE adding more CUSA teams, and CUSA adding teams from the Sun Belt, you have to wonder where it all will end. But Houston is one of those teams who could probably find a home in the MWC.

SEC commish Slive said he doesn't like the scheduling for 14. B1G will probably look for 2 more markets that will rake in the cash for their channel.

Yeah Slive said that but they have made no movement to fix the issue by going to 14. And the BIG spend years with the scheduling nightmare that was an 11 team conference. It's very possible that they expand, but I don't think it's a guarantee.

I know but then the B1G got a network and added 3 more, they have a new deal coming up in 2017, so if they don't add by then they'll probably stay at 14 for a while.

The problem with the BIG is they have been the most tight lipped of all about expansion. I mean who saw nebraska coming or Maryland and Rutgers?

Does anyone really think that Georgia Tech wants to be an outlier in the B1G?

I wouldn't. I would think they need a better travel partner for MD and Rutgers.

On the csi expansion board I sig bet a guy that Nebraska would be the add and they'd stop there that go round then listed 2 Maryland, 3 Rutgers, 4 Missouri but didn't think they would be worth it to the B1G. Guess I was wrong about them not being worth it.

Look up the recent Chip Brown and Frank the Tank articles. Interesting speculation.
