I'm really impressed by your start and hope it continues, but you guys aren't even close to the youngest team in the country. You actually have one of the more experienced teams that I've seen.

Players who've seen significant action:

Player Min. Class
Watson 29.9 Junior
Brooks 29.2 Junior
Mills 27.5 Senior
Davis 27.2 Senior
Craig 20.2 Junior
McGill 18.3 Senior
Board. 17.4 Junior
Jenkins 15.1 Junior
Carey 14.1 Freshman
Edwin 12.5 Freshman

Just compared with Charlotte (also off to a strong start at 15-3):

Henry 31.6 Sophomore
Mayfield 25.3 Junior
Braswell 25 Senior
Williams 23.4 Sophomore
Ingram 22.2 Freshman
Clayton 21.8 Freshman
Nickerson 18.5 Sophomore
Clark 18.1 Freshman
Thompson 15.3 Senior
Benkovic 6.5 Freshman

With that said, while you guys lose three important cogs in your rotation with Mills, Davis, and McGill; you'll have 5 seniors next year who've averaged 15+ minutes this year. That bodes extremely well for next year. You might have a worry for the year after that, but there's enough time for recruiting and freshman to fill what appears to be your gap.

I think he meant least experienced. Prior to this year we had only 5 years of D-1 experience on the team. 4 of those years were from returning players. Everyone else besides Davis had never played a game at the D-1 level.

I used the wrong term. We aren't the "youngest" team, we are the "least experienced D1" team in the country. I believe we are tied with MSUcks and a few other schools. Does anyone have a link to a website backing it up? I remember during the UGA game they brought up the stat graphic.

Ah, that makes sense. I was wondering where you got that from, because I remembered seeing your starting lineup on TV and thinking it was pretty upperclassmen heavy. That definitely makes the record all the more impressive. Of course, you might still have the gap problem in two years, but next year should be pretty sweet for you guys.

Yep.

To Tribeniner....basketball players are like hot chicks...they are everywhere. Out bigger question long term, especially if Tyndall continues this roll, is how long will he stay? We may be the first school to fire their football coach and have our hoops coach hired away after both only serving for one year. That would be 6 coaches in three years.

This past saturday vs UAB:

I really like this photograph. Good job on the composition. I'll have to try and recreate it with my camera. This is a great example of what is happening with USM Basketball today. Hope Tyndall stays a long time, what he could build here would be amazing.

...strange how the pic seems to indicate more the announced crowd of 5869....when I left I was quoting 6.5k to 7k...I was surprised at the actual.

...should be the same or more for the Marshall.

...and it is a great pic...maybe you should give Hammond a call to take one for the MEM game to put it on our crappy website

We don't have the youngest team. We have the least experienced one, D1-wise.

We're tied with Mississippi State and Lipscomb as the least experienced team.

nice to see a full arena at USM.

As much as I love football, it has always been a tad more fun to watch a packed Reed Green. That place can get so loud it's scary.

The emotion of basketball is more elevated than football just due to pace of play...the highs and lows are just damn fun to watch.
