Your School's Main Building
Every school has an iconic building with which it's identified. To better familiarize the rest of us (especially us Johnny-Come-Latelies) with your school, please post a photo of its iconic building here.

The main building on the University of Louisville's main campus (called Belknap Campus) is Grawemeyer Hall. The University of Louisville was chartered in 1798 and named Jefferson Seminary, a heritage that's reflected in the Jeffersonian architecture of our main building, obviously based on UVA's Rotunda.

Interesting sidebar: The statue in front of it, Rodin's The Thinker, isn't a copy, but is actually the original cast. It was restored last year.

Credit to Crazy Paco...

Our centerpiece building is the one-of-a-kind 535ft tall gothic Cathedral of Learning, the second tallest university building in the world, and the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. The interior of the Cathedral contains a massive three-story gothic study hall called the Commons Room. ...a unique collection of 27 Nationality Rooms, representing the homelands of the ethnicities of Pittsburgh at the period the university's founding in 1787. Except for two that are now only display rooms, these are functional classrooms used everyday. Eight more are in the planning stages. These, along with most Pitt buildings, are open to the public to tour (as long as class isn't in session in that particular room).

Pitt's building is crazy impressive!

Here's just a couple more of Grawemeyer Hall. Not quite as grandiose as the orange and panthers but look at that green lotsa green.

Here's a GREAT gallery on the Thinker with some awesome close ups.

If I recall correctly, the reason the Thinker got so green originally was neither the University or any government official knew it was the #1. They simply thought it was one of dozens of copies and didn't take too good of care of it. Some art expert or something to that effect came to campus and looked at it and discovered it was #1. They had more people come in look at it and sure enough we had been letting a precious piece of human history sit and rot! Thank God President Ramsey came along and started investing in our campus!

I think some of the individual rooms with international themes are one of the coolest things about Pitt.

For you diehard southerners in the ACC, it might be interesting to you that Kentucky's largest confederate monument is at the entrance to UofL's campus. Back when I was a student, fraternity row was called "Confederate Place," though that name's been changed now.

In honor of Thomas Jefferson, who chartered the City of Louisville in 1780, Grawemeyer Hall was modeled after Jefferson's home, Monticello.

I think he's either referring to Notre Dame Stadium or "touchdown Jesus". I don't think stadiums count, though.

I think it looks more like Jefferson's Rotunda at the University of Virginia.

ND's football stadium is the school's main building. It was half a joke and half true. Ask 10 people to name a building on ND's campus. 6-7 will say the football stadium anout 3 will say "the building with touchdown jesus," and 0-1 will say the admin building.

SU is like that with the Dome, so I shouldn't poke too much fun. But, to be fair to us, we have (or at least we used to have) a pic of the college of arts and sciences in our basketball jerseys

I think that it depends on the school. What else would a school like Alabama talk about??? (joking)

Yes, I have been to Virginia's campus in Charlottesville and thought it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I love that Jeffersonian architecture... didn't realize that Louisville had the same theme? Very cool... they fit better in the ACC than I originally thought. I was for them getting in anyway...
