Good game, guys! Didn't see it, so I can't really comment. Heard one KSU player in particular was being destroyed on D?

A little arrogant, are we Coach Preston?
“It was not what East Tennessee State did, it’s that we could not accomplish what we set out to accomplish,” Preston said.

Wilson went 7 for 9 from the field and made all three of his 3-pointers. He was coming off a three-point, 1-for-7 effort in a loss to Mercer.
“I’m gonna have bad games, but last game, that was unacceptable to hit only one because a lot of them were open,” Wilson said. “Coach told me to get at least 10 shots today but he wants them efficient.”

At least he can brag on being tall....perhaps the tallest in all of college basketball? He had to be at least 6'8".

Counter-intuitive statistic of the day:

In conference play, ETSU is currently leading the ASun in 3 point percentage, shooting .417.
Rashawn's got .533, Lester .438, Mario .416, and Jarvis .367

ETSU is 3rd in 3 point defense, allowing .331.

The Bucs are next to last in rebounding margin (-3.2). Only NKU, who lost their best rebounder Billups, is worse.

When we lost Dubose and Cooley, I would have bet good money that these stats would be reversed - with the Bucs one of the better rebounding teams in the ASun, and one of the worst 3 point shooting and defending teams.

The rebounding margin may be the most disappointing stat of the year. This Bucs team is not tall, but they have the ability to rebound better, and early on were doing exactly that.

I predict he finishes out his contract.

Goldfinger...it's no longer necessary to be a negative Nelly. Your negativity about ETSU athletics depresses me...especially since it's no longer true. Please stop it and say a few good words from time to time.

How is Gold negative?

When would you say ETSU has hit rock bottom? When they are winless, fail to score a single point in a game, and the defense allows 100 in every contest?

Brian Noland thought ETSU had hit rock bottom. Otherwise, David Mullins would not have been reassigned.

(01-18-2013 07:16 PM)Bucfaithful Wrote:  KSU struggles to score, defend, and pass the ball--just like us. They are led by the immensely talented Markeith Cumming, who is averaging a league-leading 18 ppg. Cummings can shoot, take it off the bounce, and post up; he'll be a tough matchup. Aaron Anderson, a 6'7" forward, also leads KSU with his junk-yard dog style of play. Anderson has a nose for the ball and is just a smart player. The Bucs should be also concerned with sophomore guard Delbert Love. Love had monster games against Mercer (32 pts.) and Jacksonville (25 pts.). The versatile Love averages 12.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 3.2 apg.

No one for the Bucs played well for the Bucs against Mercer. Given our scoring struggles, if one guy is off, we're in trouble. Lester has been a constant for us this season, but was only 1-7 from the field against Mercer. Mercer did an effective job denying him the ball and contesting his shots. KSU will do the same. Wide open looks for Lester are a thing of the past. So, he'll need to find other ways to score and we'll need to find other ways to feed him the ball. Besides Lester, our guards must attack the basket. Jarvis has been splendid defensively, but needs to be smarter on offense. I also feel that Mario should get the starting nod for his effort, especially his work on the glass. Lastly, I'd like to see Walton more aggressive on offense.

To conclude with the obvious, we need to hit our FT's. The team who gets to the line the most and converts the most, will win this game.

If Cumming was "immensely talented," don't you think he would be averaging at least 20 points a game in a conference such as the A-Sun?

Please don't apply for a job as a copy editor.

There, Mister! See, I'm negative! I said something snarky!

Doesn't matter that it's true. Or that if ETSU wants to advance up the ladder and become more of a "major" and less of a "mid," perhaps the mindset of 18 ppg scorers on 2-15 A-Sun teams (or whatever KSU's record is) should not be described as "immensely talented."

The NBA ain't in the guy's future.

Then again, in a community so focused on big schools drubbing the likes of Sullivan Central and David Crockett by 50 points and the Arby's Classic, maybe Cumming does look "immensely talented" to some.

These guys haven't got a clue

Is that any different than the "pie-in-the-sky" types who have come on here over the years?

Or the media around here who will force high school basketball down our throats at the expense of coverage to minor league baseball and ETSU?

Or, dare I say it, is it any different than the immortal Chuck Jones?

What say you, "football fans?"

This is a very legitimate criticism of the Bucs and something that I think may show some coaching shortcomings of Bartow.

One of his mentors, Bobby Knight, once had Army leading the country in rebounding when military academy requirements forced him to limit himself to players 6-6 or shorter.

Think about that for a sec.

I realize that players at military academies 40 years ago have got to be more coachable to the lessons of boxing out and such than today's A-Sun athlete.

But still, with that background, how can a Murry Bartow team be next-to-last in the conference in rebounding?

I wouldn't discount ETSU's ability to shoot from outside, however.

Sometimes I worry about Mister.

Here's a guy who was supposedly a radio broadcaster; spewing forth his wisdom to all of east Tennessee.

And you get things like this that, well, just aren't true.
