possible clue?
Just saw this:
http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...s/related/

VCU and GMU close to a 4 year series... Makes me think that VCU is likely going to be in the C7 league, as GMU would be a huge favorite to join the A10 when the moves get made- and no need for a OOC series if they're in the same conference.....

Much as I'd like to believe this was a tip of the cards, they got close to inking a series of home and homes in the wake of our departure to the A10 but nothing ever materialized.

Now, if you REALLY want to read too much into something because the silence is killing you, I'll point you to my own personal Oliver Stone style Zapruder Film Analysis of why I think VCU is in the mix....

RE: possible clue?
It's probably residue from the last conference move, not the next one.

There's really no reason for the C7 to tell those teams they're going to be in invited. They know they'll all say yes. And they'll know to keep their mouths shut and not leak anything until the press conference.

I'd say especially if it's for 2013-14 season there is good reason. The incoming schools would need to know specifics about # of games for instance. If only like 16(10 in division, then 1 vs the other division teams- 6 total)- than you have like 2 more OOC games to schedule.

And just for context, the Villa 7 event I'm referring to is a joint Nike/VCU Sports Leadership conference.... It's where VCU found Grant and then Smart.

RE: possible clue?
While it's certainly possible to read clues into a Mason-VCU series, I'd caution against it.

Our new president is a bit of a wild card in that he's never led a university with a Division I athletics department. So many alums are holding our breath waiting to see whether he'll support moving to a better league; there's a real concern that he'll try to de-emphasize athletics and keeping us stuck in a rotting CAA would be one way to do that.

So even if VCU stays in the A-10, I'd say it's even money at this point that we'll still be in the CAA 4 years from now. Our AD wanted to make the move with VCU and Butler; just too hard to know what the new prez is gonna do.

But was GMU even invited last go 'round?

I remember they announced pretty early in the dance that they were staying in the CAA, which was a bit of an upset, especially that early.

I also remember a GMU poster saying that the outgoing president didn't want to make that decision and saddle the new president with the consequences.

Yeah, who wants to leave the school in better shape? Haha

Hey, you'll get no argument from me on that. Just about everybody I know was strongly in support of switching leagues.

But what the heck do I know about being a university president?

Yeah, I've enjoyed beating VCU quite a bit over the last 15 years, too -- none moreso than the 20-point beatdown we put on you guys at Siegel in 2011. Chanting "Our house" at the VCU fans as they headed for the exits with 8 minutes left was truly cathartic, considering we were 0-6 against VCU in the Richmond Coliseum.

Who knew at that point that they were gonna go to the Final Four less than a month later? At that point, Shaka looked more likely to get fired than take a team to the Final Four.
