Disciplined Offense
Thought our offense tonight and in the last few games has been much more disciplined. Much better ball movement against the zones we've seen lately. Still make some sloppy plays at times but you can see the coaching in the team's play.

Was it me or was Rice consistently using a moving screen off the pic up top? Seemed like their big would just slide down into the defender trying to go under the screen. He would continue to slide down as our guy attempted to move around him. Saw it repeatedly tonight. The official never made the call so I wondered if what he was doing was legal?

We were attempting more of the Hi/Lo in the second half. Shaq got it to Tarik right under the basket at times beautifully but also forced it a few times for a turnover or two but its a work in progress. I do see many more set plays in recent games

While I'm glad someone knows how to make a post pass, I just wish it was one of the guards.

If Shaq didn't get the ball to Black on the on the low block, Black would never get the ball in position to score.

RE: Disciplined Offense
Good points all. Took in the game last night with the other 700 or so fans there. Braun has gutted a program that he had actually begun to turn. I live here in Houston, and the whole player relations disaster there at Rice took everyone by surprise. However it warranted maybe two days of stories in this Texans/spRockets/disAstros town.

There was a patience shown that was reassuring given the team knew it could outathlete the Owls with our depth and talent. The move to press took the Owls to a pace they didn't want to play. DJ's world class putback slam was the stunner of the night, as were the back-to-back blocks that looked like something out of Olympic volleyball. Joe and Antonio had nice games, I thought, and the bigs were in positions to make a lot more plays with better passing. Alas, we covered.

Got to visit with a lot of Tiger fans after the game. Spoke with coaches and players and families of players including all the Stephens (they represent when their Tiger is in the state), Eric Sebastian and the broadcasters. Got a great picture of Josh speaking with John Lucas. Josh's dad was having a good time. It was a heck of a lot better evening than two years ago.

RE: Disciplined Offense
The offense seemed relaxed...

Some passes were tried that needed pinpoint accuracy to be completed...Just cut down on the turnovers and get Tarik and Shaq to hit the boards a little harder and this team can really be an efficient offensive team.

Also Rice seemed content with mugging our guys anytime they got the ball in a position to score. It wasn't even subtle...they were just killing our guys.

RE: Disciplined Offense
They definitely were mugging, obviously content to make us earn the points from the line. We were seated by the Owl fan who kept yelling "brick" when our players went to the line. Given the sparseness of the gym (an echo chamber), you could probably hear him.

Most of our guys either shrugged or laughed it off. Hope we see a better conversion rate from the line going forward, presuming Rice isn't the last team that's going to employ that strategy against us.

RE: Disciplined Offense
It may seem a little picky but the officials took a lot of time before they gave the ball to our guys to pass inbounds. Almost like they were waiting for the Rice players to get down court and set up their zone. It also seemed like they held the ball longer on our free throws?

d.j.'s Mom and Dad were so happy to finally see him play! The 8-9 hour drive is a little much to come very often to Memphis. I knew he would show out for them ! 03-lmfao

RE: Disciplined Offense
DJ's uncle is one great fella. We laughed and yelled it up at Hofheinz last year and only laughed last night as DJ made some truly fantastic plays look ordinary. I may have to boondoggle my way to Dallas for the SMU game, though I think I have family commitments that will prevent such a move.

I think the more disciplined offense has been evident for quite a few games now...Personally, I think Joe has benefited the most from this...Credit goes to Pastner, and I'm not quick to say stuff like that but he deserves it

Thank you very much for the warm & fuzzie for cjp...he is really doing an admirable job...also from what I understand from an academic standpoint> he is @ the top of his class> he IS winning & pretty soon, we will get wins against those that we didnt beat before. We were very close last year. against STL. Our team lost the chemistry that it had built up during that streak before the tournament. It looks like were building that momentum again> Only with alot more depth & and offensive options. Josh deserves a TON of credit for getting JJ DJ and this team where they are right now....I HOPE HE FEELS THE LOVE & DOESNT BOLT ON US...give him his due...while WE WIN & GRADUATE these fine young men....

RE: Disciplined Offense
Which teams in our conference employ a more up-tempo style of defense? I suppose that will be when we see our patience genuinely tested. We have to continue guarding against turning over the ball, no doubt. Getting into a rhythm of offensive efficiency is a great approach.

Glad to see the improvement and effectiveness and patience of our zone offense.

Albeit against inferior teams
