"On behalf of the BIG EAST Conference Presidents and Directors of Athletics, I want to wish San Diego State the best," Big East commissioner Michael Aresco said in a statement. "We have enjoyed working with President Elliot Hirshman and Director of Athletics Jim Sterk and our membership has the highest regard for them and for their institution." On Jan. 8, Aresco told ESPN that if his league lost San Diego State, it would remain at 10 football members -- Cincinnati, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Rutgers, SMU, South Florida, Temple, UCF and UConn -- for this fall."
How about:
"We're glad SDSU backed out of the BE. We didn't need them and weak assed **** around here anyhow. I hope they ******* rot."
At least this would be a lot more honest and believable......
I don't think that's how it works.
No not at all, I wanted them and UNLV or BYU

you obviously weren't at the liberty bowl the year they went undefeated and brought about 30,000 to town.
did we ever do that? didn't think so.
it can happen.

I don't get it, this is supposed to pack the Liberty Bowl and Fed Ex? Really?
Wow, we did it, we really did.............nothing. I hate this.
Next thing you know, no money, I have no reason to think otherwise any longer.
Keep moving forward. If you think this is bad, look what's left behind in CUSA
Forward to the past? I understand what you are saying, I just don't understand how anybody could be optimistic about the situation we are in. If you are, you should have been optimistic in January. Same league, plus a few that got left out of the big show that nobody wanted. Same story, nothing has changed.

No reason to place any emotional investment in any 'rivalries' because none exist and we or they will be moving on before anything develops. There is no tradition here what-so-ever. Basically a temporary confederation of independent institutions each with its own agenda and one foot out the door.
It is what it is. All we can do is make the best of it and try to get 'in' somehow, someway.
When I read this, I agreed wholeheartedly, but then I thought about what this might look like after two or three years if no one leaves. I can tell you this, I'll bet Cincinnati and Memphis would have a rivalry in BB. Can you imagine how much disdain they would have for us as one of the top two in the "left behind" category versus our next to last in the "newly invited" category? And it doesn't take much to figure our perspective either. Yeah, there would be some quick hatred among some of those schools. The nUConn without Calhoun -- they wouldn't want to invite us for clam chowder either. It would certainly be better than trying to convince ourselves that UTEP is our rival.

You can't build a rivalry in 2-3 seasons...it takes 20-30. USM in football and UAB in bb were the rivalries we had left in old CUSA. Louisville, UT, and Ole Miss are the teams Tiger fans love to hate. We need to make sure we play those games in both sports as often as possible. The difference in the nBE without Louisville is marked. Everyone was so excited about getting back into a conference with them....well, that didn't last long did it?
Being in the nBE conference now feels like being stranded and staying at an airport hotel...sure, it beats sleeping on a row of padded seats but it that's about it.......

The only school in the Big East that we will be able to quickly renew rivalry with will be Cindy. However, it will only occur if both Cindy and Memphis are at or near the top in the basketball standings next year and the years to come. If one of the two programs tank, it won't be that big of deal. The same could happen in football, but right now we are so far behind Cindy in that sport, we won't be a factor. Maybe Fuente will make us competative quicker than we expect.
