Nerf gun sends school into lockdown
A teen brought a Nerf toy gun to his school, and a lockdown ensued followed by a SWAT team. Turned out to be nothing, but you can see what we've become.

When I was in elementary school we'd bring toy machine guns to school and play army on the playground. We'd likely be thrown out of school for a 180 days now, and our Child Protective Services would take us away from our parents.

Don't the perps see the signs outside of the school. "Gun Free Zone." Perhaps we need bigger signs...............

Or less "perps". You're watching too much Adam 12 on Nickelodeon.

Adam 12's on Nick? Who knew.

About the only police stuff I watch is Law & Order Mayberry on TVLand. Ms. Crump is hotter than Mariska Hargitay.

Why would any kid bring any kind of toy gun to school in this era?

Why should he/she be allowed to?

Would you let your kid(s), Dip? Think it's harmless?

As a teacher and/or parent I would HOPE SWAT Team was called in.

It's like making mock of Columbine and Sandy Hook at very least.

Calm down the skipper. Just pointing out how times have changed.

There was a kid expelled for 180 days from a local district. He'd brought a butter knife to school. It was eventually overturned.

We need not throw common sense out the window in these situations. Literal interpretation of the law has its issues too. If you take EVERY situation equally serious (squirt gun as serious as 12 inch hunting knife) then pretty soon you take none of them seriously.

I don't think so, Li'l Buddy.

You were making a flip Pro-Gun statement until you got called on it and actually had to think.

CD/CD1, surprised you haven't mentioned this yet, took place in UBER LIBERAL Montgomery County, MD.

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/...74841.html

Quote:A 6-year-old Montgomery County boy was recently suspended from school for making a gun gesture with his thumb and forefinger. Now, his family has retained a lawyer and is fighting back.

The boy is a student at Roscoe Nix Elementary School in Silver Spring. His attorney, Robin Ficker, says that school officials overreacted to the gesture, since it came a week after the mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, in which 20 elementary school students and 6 staff members were killed.

Wait until a kid gets stabbed by a pencil. Talk about a conundrum.

Was her finger loaded? Did she go "Pow-Pow-PowPow!!!" Did she have a 007 silencer on it. "Chew, Chew, ChewChew" 03-shhhh

No ammo takes us back to intent.

We used to draw planes in class with high powered machine guns. We'd spray battle ships and then the bombers would drop bombs on them. Unfortunately when we'd make the machine gun and bomb explosion sounds the teacher would take the pictures away. Luckily we'd usually deep sixed the Japs by that point and could move on to drawings of the Titanic sinking. That was big as well, and didn't require a lot of sound effects.

RE: Nerf gun sends school into lockdown
Time magazine did an article on how "Men and Women are Different." One of those stating the obvious articles that Time often does, that is supposed to enlighten us dopes in the fly over country.

They cited a study where boys were given Barbies and girls were given some boy toy (can't remember). Anyhow, after a short period of time the boys (unprompted) started pointing the Barbies at each other and pretending they were guns. Has to be in the DNA.............well, except for like metrosexuals.

I don't understand why the Federal Government doesn't regulate toy guns.

They've regulated speech.

They've regulated thought.

They've their trying to regulate "real" guns.

Do these clowns not realize what a dangerous influence toys can be?

What are "we" saying to "our" kids by allowing them to pretend to shoot each other?

It takes a village, you know.

It's not like the NNA (National Nerf Association) has a strong lobby.
