No. It's to keep the Pro Rodeo finals, bring in a New Year's bowl game, and to host very large concert events. Vegas wants visitors that come once a year - not season ticket holders.
Vegas makes more money on the NFL sports book than you can believe. An NFL team here would mean no NFL betting here. No one in Vegas wants that.
Interesting. Is that true?
I guess you'd have to ask the leagues. For now we have overwhelming hearsay supporting that notion.
"Aside from wagering concerns, which all of the three professional sports publically cite as impediments to placing a team in Vegas, demographic factors have placed limitations on Vegas as a sports town. Even though Vegas is a preferred city for special events in boxing and MMA, it has never been seen by league executives and stadium and arena developers as being able to sustain a full schedule of games for a home team."

I didn't realize in Oregon it's permitted ( http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/12...rts.html).
It's clear from the leagues' posture in NJ that they're hostile to legal sports betting, which is interesting b/c Vegas books have (perhaps through evolution) become trusted resources in noticing unnatural and suspicious shifts in betting behavior. Perhaps opposition elsewhere is the leagues' payback to support the Vegas monolith.
