I was impressed with Rucker continuing to take it to the basket, despite having earlier shots swatted away like flies.
Conversely, I was not impress with his three 3-point attempts.
Absolutely. The 3 point shooting attempts had me kind of perplexed, he'd not been shooting those all season, now all of a sudden, he's jacking them up. But inside the paint, he was a gladiator.
The player guarding RR never went with him when he went outside. He is not a 3 point shooter but was left alone, wide open. Almost have to take it especially considering how everyone else was shooting(or not). The same applies to Foz's man. That's why Foz was open from the elbow. Their man-to-man defense concentrated/was tight on the shooters on the outside and the inside for Foz and RR. Expect the same until we beat it.

RE: Memphis game and thoughts
I really don't understand why people continue to get on Haase and the pace of the game. Attalla, me, and several others all pointed out that this was not going to be the fastest 40 minutes again and again before he even arrived. Haase is having to make even more adjustments this year because KC is out and JT has been dismissed. That's a pretty thin cupboard at this point. Add to that the size disadvantage we have in every game and no true PG, and you can see why he can't run exactly what he wants to. Next year, I expect to see the team really moving in transition. We are going to have enough guys to run the entire game at that point though, and hopefully a capable PG.
At this point, signing T. Jones probably wasn't worth it because it is hampering the development of Hoopy and Q without adding anything significant to help the team. These guys were taught to play as slow as possible for as long as they've been at UAB, and to expect them to pick up a new style and be able to execute it in less than a year just isn't fair. I think we'll see a very different team and style next season.

+1
We brought a scorer in and told him to run the offense. I would much rather see Q and Hoopy at point. I think T. Jones would be more productive at the 2 guard spot with Rob.

RE: Memphis game and thoughts
Blazeralou,
You are too young to remember this, but the topic you brought up goes back a LONG way. We used to give away UAB Football tickets to every group you could think of to let people "try it out." The idea was to help promote our program and build interest.
Here's what happened: The people who wanted to go to UAB games never bought tickets because they could get them for free from one of the groups. Also, those who weren't interested in UAB Football saw the free tickets and came away with the idea that UAB Football was so pitiful that they were giving away thousands of tickets. It made our product seem worthless, and the athletic department made even less money at the gate, since those who would have bought a ticket didn't need to.
Don't send the message that your product is worthless.
With that said, I agree with you that we could do a better job with promotions. We should know by now though, that winning is the best promotion available. We should try that again.

RE: Memphis game and thoughts
According to KenPom.com, UAB's adjusted tempo is now ranked 2nd in the nation. UAB is averaging 74.4 possessions per game. Of course it doesn't help if you are struggling to put the ball through the hoop.
DePaul is number 1 at 75.9.
After the Memphis game, Pomeroy now has UAB going 6-10 in conference games, good enough for second to last place in C-USA. UAB's rating dropped to 179.
UAB is only favored in four more games, and of course they are all home games.

I agree. I think we have a new PG and C at the least. I can also see Washington sneaking in there. The important thing is hopefully we have at least 4 guys who are coming in that can play right away. If we add them to Faz, Rucker, Swing, Purifoy, Hoopy, Rob, Q, and KC, we will have a very deep roster with a good blend of youth and experience. We will also have the ability to play a little bigger or smaller depending on how the game is going. After all these guys have a year in the system, I'm expecting to see a much different team next season.

I can't believe that that adjusted tempo stat is accurate. That's hard to believe after Saturday's game. We dribbled the ball outside of the three point line for at least 20-25 seconds on the majority of our half court possessions. However, I'll post a disclaimer and let everyone know I haven't been able to see our team play much this year, lol.
I guess if your shooting percentage is as low as ours has been, even if you generate the most possessions per game in the nation, your scoring average will still be low, haha

Agree with the point about T jones blazers. At this point, we probably aren't going to any postseason, so I'd favor giving most of the PG minutes to QT and Hoopy to help them develop. Let T Jones split time at the 2. He's not a true PG in the first place, and hasn't done anything spectacular this year.

True but I think we need to give said players more in game experience or we will run the risk of having no legitimate point guards again next year. Who knows if any of the new guards will be game ready, and if QT or Hoopy just get garbage minutes, will they improve at all?

Helps Q gain more confidence if he starts he would give more shots to Rod,Foz,T.J.,and Jordan allowing Q to play his natural role he likes as facilitator. As it stands now Q's minutes don't help bench production with Hoopy problems. Bringing Rob and PP off the bench would give us two veteran guards and some flexability. Also it allow T. Jones to do what he do best and he along Rod Swing could gives us a big three of some sort along with what he get out of Foz since Rod is the only consistant player we have right now.
For 2013 its good we have two to three guys to run the show. I wish we would've gotten some height and a proven scorer at the 2 guard spot. Still haven't seem to replace that Sanders-Johnson backcourt.
