RE: Glass Bowl Renovation/Expansion
Honestly, I'm not expecting any renovations to be done to the Glass Bowl for quite some time. Prior to the start of the football season, UT had about half of the blue stadium beams freshly painted but the other half had not been painted. It looks like crap. If Toledo doesn't even have enough money to spend on PAINTING simple things, then I just have no hope in any big time renovation in the near future.

Exactly !!! The exposed beams under the east deck has had that unfinished look for a few seasons... Walking aound an empty GB on several occasions I've noticed small deteriotating sections exposing re-bar... Taking care of that, along with freshpaint and some touchup around the stadium would give the facility a much needed cosmetic improvement... And it would not require a lot of $$$...

Btw,looking at an old Blade article from the 1980's, UT's master plan for the Glass Bowl included expansion to 30,000. Then UT President Driscoll said UT should always go first class whether it be the Chemistry Dept or athletics.

Something to that.

Imagining something "doable" from scratch, I really keep coming back to something that would be not much different than it is, a Fortress. Enclosed or partially so that it can be used in the coldest months. Mostly glass but still with the towers and the walk around and the great view of U-Hall. In my mind, I still see a Fortress but maybe more of a faceted Glass Fortress. Glass Bowl. Love that place, even with the cruddy looking areas under the stands.

I really wish they could re-do Larimer to better fit in visually with the Towers. Make it more intimidating. Put a BIG DOOR in it and a moat with bird eating dragons and a jousting stand nearby. And busty wenches.

It's like they don't care about the money that 'little' donors have. If they publicize it, I bet more donors who don't have the big bucks will donate at least a little bit of money.

That is just how it works my friend. Dan is doing his silent behind the scenes fund raising to get the project launched. Plus past donors and supporters of the university are deserving of having first shot at naming opportunities based on their past committment to UT. I would bet there is probably a good deal of negotiation and coordination on who gets to ask for money and when as to not bombard the alumni. At some point I have a feeling everyone will get hit up, so dont worry.

Send Dan a check and he'll certainly thank you and update you whatever the amount. Dan's job is to harvest whenever he can find a good yield.
