Depends on how our conference ends up. Who knows. UAB may be the in the 'Big East' too when it's all said and done.

There are maybe one or two message board poster I would say are "pissed" and they're probably more pissed because you and Drew are goading them. Most UAB fans I've talked to want the series to continue at some point, but understands why, if it ends.

If by goading them you mean telling the truth...you're right...Memphis gets nothing out of a home-home with UAB...sometimes te truth hurts.

Several in this thread seem to disagree with you. They enjoy a fun and easy road trip.

Just curious, do you think Josh Pastner and Tom Bowen really care about giving the Memphis fans a fun and easy road trip? I doubt it, and that has been my point all along.

Classy post. I would agree that the series should continue. Every team should have couple of rivals and I believe UAB was the closest to us for that in this conference and its not like we are only playing 12 games. After 16 conference games we still have 13 more and UAB's RPI is usually high enough that a loss to them would not be terrible. Personally I think we should play Louisville, cincy and Uab in basketball every year and Louisville, cincy and s miss in football. We should play tenn in basketball if we also play them in football.

I would like to see us do a long term in football and basketball with Mizzou and Kansas every year and develop rivalries there- maybe even Kansas state.

RE: UAB wishes to continue Memphis series
I think it is in Memphis' best interest to continue the series.
  • UAB normally has a good RPI and a road loss will not hurt much while a road win elevates our RPI.
  • It is a fun and accessible road trip from Nashville and Memphis.
  • It does not harm recruiting.
  • It provides an opportunity to honor Bartow. Besides raising money for a good cause, the games could give our school good PR if promoted properly.

if we play uab home and home ooc then we might as well give up basketball.

if they want to play in memphis for recruiting purposes, they can play here but we cannot go to Birmingham ooc

I respect your opinion. What is the alternative you have in mind that bests the criteria I listed? We have to play someone and, regrettably, the nBE will not be as powerful as we thought last March.

I absolutely agree this series should continue. We have a good history and nice little rivalry going. It does not hurt Memphis to play in any way. Look at all the crappy teams on our ooc schedule, just using rpi alone would make them an improvement.

RE: UAB wishes to continue Memphis series
You guys will be happy with our ooc headliner being uab every other year?

Here are the facts:

We have ZERO expenses playing in one of the top arenas in the world .. In fact the Grizz pay us $800,000 to play in FedExForum.. in exchange they get to keep the concessions and box rentals (and possibly other revenue streams) and they require that we have actual attendance of a certain amount and that we play 18 home games ..

This year we have ONE home and TWO away 'non buy' ooc games. and we have 19 home games ... therefore: the most we can hope for is 2 home and 2 away 'non buy' ooc games .... If you think UAB warrants one of four ooc slots (max) that we can ever have , that is your right to have that opinion, but I think that we need a higher profile game for those four slots ..

I think uab is a fine school ..the numbers just don't work in REALITY ..

I'd rather keep a relationship going with USM.

It is disappointing that Mike Davis isn't the coach anymore. Always enjoyed his sideline antics.

I like playing them too, for all the reasons others have stated. But the bottom line is, they really don't deserve one of these spots. It's not like they would be taking a spot from say... Lipscomb, or UT Martin, or one of the other cupcakes on our schedule. That would indeed be an upgrade. But they would be taking an important OOC spot like, Louisville, or UT, or Xavier.

Really?
