Obama: do as I say, not as I do on gun control
http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2013/01...fend-home/

Quote:As a state senator in Illinois, President Obama opposed legislation providing an exception to handgun restrictions if the weapon was used in the defense of one’s home.

Obama’s vote would have maintained the status quo, which made it a violation of municipal gun ban law to use a firearm to save your own life in your own home. But the bill was passed anyway without his support.

Of course if someone goes after Obama, be it in his home or anywhere else he fully expects these guys to gun down the would be assassin.

Kill'em, shoot'em, gun'em down

His previous vote illustrates his position on guns. It's extreme. He voted for a bill that made it illegal to shoot someone invading your home and threatening your life.

While I agree that automatic weapons should be banned, I also understand how the left operates. The do away with rights incrementally (see cigarette smoking).

You're just trying to start a fight. Trying to throw handguns in this discussion.

Automatic weapons aren't a left/right issue any longer, these mass shootings have changed that stale stereotype. We've had one per month for the last year. One was seven miles from my house, and seven miles the other direction there's Columbine.

I've stated several times, automatic weapons have to be outlawed. My point has nothing to do with automatic weapons, my point is that the president is on record taking a very extreme position on gun control.

Liberals have incrementally taken away rights over the past 30 years. They always start with something that is salable to the public and then chip away at it over time.

If someone invaded your home and was going to shoot you, I suspect you'd shoot back. Do you think it's right that you go to jail for protecting your own life?

Again, why are you bringing this into the discussion or even trying with your emotional pandering, it's not relevant to the issue of the day.

I agree with his handgun and home defense ruling, and I agree with the addressing of assault weapons as well. Is that hard to get?

There is no emotional pandering. It's a fact, that Obama has voted to prosecute those who defend themselves in their own home.

I dont know if you have children, but I'd bet every dime I've made in my life that your agreement with Obama's vote on defending yourself in your own home, would end the second someone invaded your house and endangered your children.

Remember when Mike Dukakis was confronted by this question in the 1988 debates. "If your wife Kitty was raped and murdered, would you still oppose the death penalty for the perpetrator?" Dukakis stuck with his PC answer which everyone knew was b.s. and proceeded to lose the election. When applied to someone elses family we tend to wash our hands of it and stick to our "so called principles." But we all know 99% of the population would blow the perps head off if he were invading our home and threatening our loved ones lives.

Uhhhmmm, I started the thread, I pointed out Obama's voting record........................NEVER ONCE DID I MENTION SCHOOLS OR THEATERS............YOU DID.

If you want to start a thread on those topics feel free, but don't accuse me of changing the subject when I've been on topic (my topic, not yours) from the beginning.

Funny you should mention smoking. I was on a non-profit board in BC when the board was presented with a proposal to ban smoking within 100 feet of the building. The resolution passed 11-1. I was the 1. Am I a smoker? No. But I thought WTF? I think mandatory seat belts are unconstitutional. As long as we're infringing on freedom, lets ban Mickey Dees.

Oddly, in SanFrancisco you can smoke pot at any outdoor event because it's................medical 03-drunk

But cigarettes are banned at most outdoor events.

RE: Obama: do as I say, not as I do on gun control
I'm just wondering why automatic weapons were mentioned at all, all of the weapons used have been of the single shot per trigger pull variety. There have been no new regulations on automatic weapons since 1934, it's still a $200 fee and the registration to own one of those, but that has done very well in limiting automatic weapons. Banning "assault weapons" is purely cosmetic, it's a 'those look scary so civilians shouldn't have them' response, put the exact same mechanism into a wooden stock and it's not an assault weapon anymore.

They've been rapid fire, AR-15 for the most part, and two of the mass shootings they had very large magazines, you don't clip those on a "wooden stock" without heavy modification if it's even feasible.

I agree about the assault rifles but we should also lay blame on violent movies and the video games out there that people attribute to reality and play it out. It looks cool on the screen and the video game so isome act it out. It pisses me off we have to address it but the dumbing down of America both education wise and morally has led to this. I'm just glad that violent gangs (who we omit) don't get a hold of thee automatic weapons illegally
