Sorry, but the local Jimmy Olsen is not national.
You DO know how Twitter works though, right?
I know that no one cares about John Martin outside of Memphis.
Then when Gary Parrish inevitability is dragged in, he's looks pitiful haggling over this stupid thread.

Well, there's apparently an axe to grind there, so I'll just go on about my business...

Nice to see more and more folks think before they post, or least know of what they are talking instead of casting stones about stuff they know next to little, or nothing, about.
Really, really stretches the analogy and I don't think the readers first response is one that the OP wants:
"If you got rid of a Porsche, and wanted something that performed like a Porsche, why didn't you go out and get another Porsche?"
Even if you were trying for budget performance, a Mustang just isn't a lot of bang for your buck. You should have bought another car. If you really want cheap performance you should get a light weight boderline street legal car like a Caterham (although that's not really a production car, so maybe it doesn't count...)
Wait. I'm getting lost in the bad metaphor again...

He turned out to be better than the Mustang, might actually turn out to be a Porsche, and if we had to do another search...I highly doubt we would be able to even get another Mustang.

IIRC, I think RC Johnson might have looked at a car a lot of people thought was quite similar to a Caterham, but dithered over making an offer because he was concerned about whether or not he could get it through inspection... Especially since the previous Porsche was known for spewing a lot of carbon monoxide from its tailpipe.

Tim Floyd sucks, but I think he'd get more out of our current talent than Josh would.
If Scott Drew had come, he might be a JA, but his recruiting would probably be on Josh's level and he'd have a top 25 win by now.

The bottom line is that nobody wanted the job, and if for some reason Pastner leaves, history tells us that even if Memphis is a supposed very good job; no very good coach will either want it, or be available to take it. If we don't luck into Cal, Johnny Jones stays as the coach and we probably become a slightly above average program averaging around 8-10k per game.
Yes, in many cases the coach twice removed is still worse. Groce might turn out to be better than Bruce Webber; but he certainly isn't Bill Self. Mike Anderson is better than Stan Heath and the end of Nolan Richardson, but Razorback fans haven't been to the Sweet 16 in 16 years.
Steve Lavin is probably better than all of his predecessors dating back to Lou Carnesecca...but they've gone through 20 years of mediocre basketball.

If Cal is an Italian supercar, he's definitely a Pagani. Ostentatious challenger to the old guard, striving for legitimacy, and will take you right off the road if you aren't careful with its power.

JA = Donkey
Scott Drew is more Cal on the floor than Pastner.
Pastner has two things going for him... He's a good, attractive, energetic person and he recruits his behind off.
Drew has some actual college basketball accomplishments from taking a program in actual turmoil that only can be compared to Penn State's football program right now (even the SMU death penalty wasn't in bad of a situation as Baylor's basketball program) and building it all while playing in a tough basketball conference.
So I'd say that Drew doesn't have the same problems as Josh.

None of them would be able to recruit to Memphis like Pastner or Cal. Results are relative to the RPI. If you have 12 chances at quality wins, you will luck into 1 or 2 and have a high RPI. You also probably won't be severely punished when you lose against a cupcake. We had one shot at home all year against a ranked opponent, and got screwed by the refs. If we lose to a lesser opponent our RPI will probably go down 15 points.
It's all relative. My opinion is that Pastner is much closer to a Porsche than a Mustang.
