Talk about a brutal schedule...Nebraska, Cal (home), Alabama, TCU, USF, Houston (home), Cincy (home), East Carolina (home), Tulane, Memphis, UAB (home)...that was the year after we won C-USA in '03...and cfb fans wonder why we are so mad that after all these years we continue to get the shaft in expansion.
??? How can you play only 5 C-USA games, while playing 6 OOC? First off, I'm presuming you're playing 12 games like every other FCS program. I thought you had to play 8 conference games?

Firstly, we did play 8 conference games (@Tulane, @USF, Houston, ECU, Cincinnati, @Memphis, @TCU and UAB).
Secondly, there were only 11 regular season games in 2004. That was back when a season could have 12 games only under certain conditions depending on dates. There were also 11 games in 2005 with the NCAA going to permanent 12 game seasons in 2006.
C-USA went from 11 to 12 teams after that season with the defections of TCU to the MWC and Louisville, Cincinnati and USF to the Big East and Army returning to an Independent by adding SMU, Rice, Tulsa, Marshall, UCF and UTEP. The first conference championship game was between two new members, Tulsa at UCF which Tulsa won 44-27.
Thirdly, we're not an FCS program.

I remember watching the Cal game while I was a freshman in college and the crowd for USM that night was amazing.

Truthfully, our Homecoming has never been based on who the easy win would be. It is always around the same time of year and whichever home game falls closest to that date.

Me thinks the Rice fan is young.

Why would you necessarily associate the craziness of college realignment with past football scheduling? Particularly 2004 non-conference scheduling that probably was probably arranged several years prior (2000, if not sooner)?
