Decision coming soon on Davis

Sophomore guard Jeremiah Davis might be headed for a medical redshirt year due to an injury to his left wrist, but UC coach Mick Cronin said Thursday no decision has been made yet.

According to trainer Bob Mangine, Davis has a cartilage injury in his wrist. Before that, Davis had a tendon problem in the same wrist. Mangine said the tendon is no longer an issue.

Davis, who shoots right-handed, practices with the team – although not every day – and participates in pre-game warm-ups in uniform, but hasn’t played since Nov. 20 vs. Campbell. He has played in four games this season and has averaged 5.5 points. His season high was nine points against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 13.

Cronin said it’s hard to say how much the Bearcats have missed Davis, who might be able to provide an additional perimeter scoring threat on a team that has struggled to score in the half-court lately.

“You don’t know how much he would have been able to bring to the table because he hasn’t played,” Cronin said.

The UC coach said a decision will have to be made soon on Davis’ status. If Davis still hasn’t played by the start of February because of the injury, he will probably be redshirted, leaving him with three years of eligibility.

I think this is a huge reason for our struggles. He is the only consistent scorer off the bench and SK's backup. With SK's struggles it makes it an even bigger loss. Plus it's difficult to be an up tempo team when we don't have the depth in our guards.

if it was that dire the article wouldn't be about a looming decision either...it would be easy: redshirt.

Seems like there is some tension between Mick and JDIII.

Wouldn't surprise me to see JDIII transfer. Although, he clearly would get playing time next season with Cash and Parker gone.

I'm wondering who plays PG next year.

I was really looking forward to watching him play this year. I really like his game. Hope he gets the RS because we will need him for the next couple years.

You can set your calendar to it. Chatter comes up with at least one "transfer out" candidate at this time every year.

They were saying at the beginning of the game that he started, but he never came off the bench. The stater instead of JDIII was Titus Rubles. So, still no decision.

If you look at the official scorebook, JDIII didn't play.

1. JDIII didn't start. Fox Sports listed him wrong. Rubles started. JDIII didn't play at all.

2. You don't live in Cincinnati and you don't get to listen to sportstalk shows all week. Sure, it's just pure speculation, but JDIII was in a serious doghouse even before the injury. Sure, it might be all overblown, and he pulls a Parker and comes back strong. Or maybe there's something to it.

I still want him to play THIS year...we need him bad.

OK Chatter, I won't argue with you. I'm just SHOCKED that a Cincy sportstalk radio show even brought up the Bearcats
