Flip it around: MT and UT playing in Bowling Green makes no sense, and we have alumni in Bowling Green. Or Louisville & UK playing in Cincinnati because Lexington is across the river from Ohio. WKU had an opportunity to play UK at home on campus....guaranteed sell-out, tickets could have been $100. If a neutral site was desired, they could have played in Louisville to capture more Kentucky market for long-term benefit.
Instead, they schedule the Battle for Kentucky in Nashville? Fans will attend the game and say: "What a great Tennessee stadium with a sweet view of Nashville's skyline on a beautiful Middle Tennessee evening.....and why the heck are we here?" And yes, it will be on the front page of the sports section in Nashville for one day, and people all across Middle Tennesse will read it Sunday morning and say "what the heck....".
Do the math and you will see how much sense it makes.
First off WKU isn't going to put a $100 price tag on this one game and end up losing 2000 season tickets sales. At this point season tickets sold is a big deal. Same thing at $50 for this one game...it would hurt season ticket sold.
Now that we have that out of the way lets get to a little math....
24,000 x 35 at home = 840,000 but that's paid attendance and with a average of 4800 students attendance it brings the number of paid tickets to 19200 =$672,000 but we aren't finished yet..in my opinion the student number jumps for this game to well over 6,000 and we can't forget that students can buy as many guess tickets as they want for $6 so add in another 1,000 for guess tickets ..
you now have 6,000 out of the 24k as free tickets and another 1,000 ay $6 so total on tickets sold would be $636,000 if WKU played this game at home. Played in Nashville on a Saturday night, first game of the season, with both schools having new head coaches and uk with the revenge factor...= 50,000 to me but lets drop that to 40,000 and the total is 1.4 mil for the gate.
Nashville is a 45 minute drive and Louisville 2 hours and keeping it in state or not isn't important because just like with entertainment most people in BG would travel to Nashville a 45 minute drive than Louisville.
And I will end on this...the higher the price is (at this point) the lower the number of season tickets you will sell. SEASON TICKETS SOLD should be the biggest goal at all SBC schools. That's how you build a fanbase and at some point hope to be able to get rid of the cheaper tickets....winning and season tickets
