MWC talking to Tulsa, but not UTSA

That;s too bad I think Tulsa is headed to the nBE and I'd like to be in Texas. UTEP, UTSA are fine w/ me. They are hoping for Houston/Tulsa, I don't see that. Most likely SDSU and stop at 12.

You are probably right but the MWC needs to think on a larger scale: 12 teams NOW with SDSU and move ASAP to get to 14 teams with adding in order of preferance: BYU, SMU, Houston, UTEP, UTSA, and Tulsa last.

A 14 team conference would add stability in case of future raids and those schools have decent sports programs and good TV markets. We need a secured presence in Texas. I would be very concerned about cohesion and stability if we tried to go to 16.

The problem with the MWC is they are reactive and not proactive enough about expansion because the presidents don't want to share the $ among too many schools, so Thompson should convince them that good schools in good markets could pay off huge in a future media contract and to move quickly while the iron is hot.

Preference: BYU, Houston, UTEP, Tulsa, and with UTEP and Houston in I prefer Texas State over SMU, UTSA, UNT, or Rice.

Not trying to be a smart A$$ here by any means, but why Texas State? Maybe a list of "your" reasons? Just curious--that's all.

I don't see the need for 14 in the MW. The PAC is staying at 12 and the Big12 is staying a 10. If SDSU comes then great we stay at 12. Going to 14 would make sense only if BYU wanted in. If SDSU doesn't come back then discuss getting 1 Texas team to round out to 12, but no further unless BYU changes their mind.

No worries, I know it is not a popular pick.

My thinking is that Texas State allows toeholds in both Austin and San Antonio media markets. You could make a similar argument for UTSA but I think they are more of a commuter school.

Texas State has also been slowly improving their facilities and programs over the last six or seven years. Their move just seems thought out and deliberate.

Baseball...I know, means little to nothing unless you personally like to see a strong baseball conference.

Dallas is saturated in comparison to San Antonio and Austin, though you do have Bevo to contend with in Austin. Six (to one extent or another) college football teams are fighting for viewers/fans in Dallas/Ft Worth, not to mention the Cowboys, Mavs and Rangers.

Texas State would also be something of a bridge between Houston and the rest of the MW East.

I'm still trying to figure out how these two things relate. "That's too bad I think Tulsa is headed to the nBE and I'd like to be in Oklahoma" would make a little more sense.

So you think we'd just sit at 13 w/ Tulsa? I have a geography minor. I shoulda put a period instead of and. I guess you just couldn't see(forgetting we aren't all on the same wave lengths leaving out little details) that we'll probably stop at 12 w/ SDSU unless we get some combo of Houston/Tulsa, Houston/UTEP, at worst Tulsa/UTEP. On the field Tulsa/Houston would be the best combo so it's too bad we probably won't get them. I, however, think we should be in Texas and would be cool w/ UTEP/UTSA. Hope that helps. 04-cheers

RE: MWC talking to Tulsa, but not UTSA
UH / SMU Consider their selves Eastern schools, Even though MWC I believe to be better Conference SMU / UH will stay with the NBE

Tulsa a great school and due more with less but if they have their way they will be with UH / SMU / Tulane

UTEP wants to be in the MWC but also want to be in Texas for Alums so TXST / UTSA would be good

UNT never wanted go to the WAC when Boise was there so not sure how Admin feel about the MWC

UTSA a sister school to UTEP and would have their support more then TXST would
