With Boise Gone they had nobody in their neighborhood.
As for Houston SMU? They fit in fin with UCF / SSF / Tulane / and Memphis as the core to a southern division. Throw in Sourthern Miss and you have a nice 7 team dixie division.
It is not best for San Diego State to leave.
This^. You can't beat the increased eastern exposure along with more money and TV access in the Big East. Doesn't MWC teams only make $1 for all sports?
Yea thats why Boise stuck it through with the Big East..

The Aztecs pay out from the MWC this season is $600,000.
In the grand scheme of things, $600K IS $1.00.

RE: SDSU Talks With MWC Heating Up
I knew all along (like most of us) that the western plan would fall through unless we went at it aggressively.
When ECU and Tulane were announced, I thought that was great because that must mean that two or three other western schools were sure to follow (Fresno, UNLV, etc.). It never occurred to me that we would add ECU and Tulane and then stop adding schools. Then time went by and ... nothing happened.

Yep, at this point it looks like a major screwing of the proverbial pooch.

Agreed. We should have been more agressive. We never really seemed to have embraced the western expansion in the way most fans in the west expected.

That's why when everyone said they are just replacing Louisville and Rutgers some of us cried out.

Maybe because "we" haven't had a chance to vote. I would expect that is why the meeting is with incoming schools present. I can only guess things would have moved along a lil differently with the incoming schools having more control. If we can make it until July 1st, we'll be cool from there. Currently too many different agendas to work on building a conference.

I agree. And when I say western fans, I include myself. I was most pleased with the nBE during last fall and spring when it appeared we would be adding BYU and AF to complete the western division. Thats the way I was hoping it would all play out in the west.

I'm not sure if this article has been posted.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86557...ggies.html
Even Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco admitted that SDSU will likely be walking away from the depleting conference.
"Every indication is they want to stay (in the MWC)," he said after attending a BCS commissioners meeting. "Whether they will or not we still don't know. We're still talking."

How is that an admission? The commentary does not match the quote.

That same quote was used in reference to SDSU stayin in the BE earlier. Given the deseretnews's track record of being fuktarded, I'll take the earlier reference to the quote.

We'll find out soon enough. But it does look more likely than not that SDSU is staying in the MW. It just seems if they wanted to go to the nBE they would have said so in the past week or so.

What kind of logic is hat? Couldn't just as easy say that if they were going to return to thw MW they would have said so by now?
Who knows what transpires.

We don't know what will transpire. But what happened to all that "Full steam ahead" type of stuff that Sterk was saying?

Well, to be fair, Boise pretty much pulled the rug out from under him.

and the other division would get completely dominated. they'd have 2 in Texas, 2 in Florida, one in MS, one in Nawlins and one in Memphis. Talk about a recruiting disadvantage for the opposite division. Damn I'd hate to be in the North division.
You just CAN'T break the divisions like that. I'd go with an East / West split.
West - Houston, SMU, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, USM
East - USF, UCF, ECU, Navy, UConn, Cincy

They added the parenthetical of a source they didn't mine - that is terrible journalism. I took it as the opposite when it was first reported. More Provo Pravda nonsense.
