I wonder if UMASS might join as a non football member to go along with Navy being a football only member? That would allow them to go back to FCS if they wanted to?

You can't say you're serious about football and not mention Southern Miss.

we would be harder to ignore if everyone hadn't beat our johnson last season.

Last season sure didn't look like USM football, but people around the nation knows it was not the USM you will get on schedule normally. I am always amazed at how much respect USM has around the country among informed football fans, and we have been known as a program you don't want to play if you are in the range of a title, because even if you beat USM afterwards you are so banged up it could cost you down the road. However the things that get in the way of USM realizing it's full potential are, the small market, the lack of respect in the South Mississippi area (especially Hattiesburg) and the area is likely to let the program go under than to put a 1 penny tax on tourist trade to save money for the school because the word tax is there. I grew up in the area (Columbia) and I am almost 60 so I have a very good knowledge of the area (also went to USM), and I have always be shocked at how they will drive to Oxford for an Old Mess game but refuse to put one cent into helping USM.

Pay attention to this man. He knows what's going on.

Have any Tulsa beat writers mentioned this before? If it's true, why the hell haven't they reported it? :domokun:

That would go a long way toward explaining the Tulane bid.

LOL @ THIS. You have Tulsa's president nearly begging to get out of CUSA (see his quotes) and yet just a month ago they turned down the Big East while it still had the C7? Laughable. That makes less sense than TU's invite.

Why does it make less sense. Maybe just maybe the Tulsa president has seen what everyone else has seen that the "Blown Up Big East" is nothing but a big glomed up mess. Maybe the Tulsa president also seen that the basketball schools was not going to be there or Boise and SDSU was not going to be there. Everyone seen these things except those blinded by the conference name "Big East".

Take UMass, when were they last relevant in the landscape. I would say Marcus Camby's JR year and John Calipari's last year at UMass, which was 1996.

Rumor has it that the invite was for football only. And then again, it may just be a rumor of an invite at all.

It was football only. And its been posted on here off and on by several different Tulsa fans over the past 30 days. Nobody wants to hear it though. Many western schools said no to football only at that time as well. Not much leaks out of TU. Its tight with info. But this did get out, even before ECU and Tulane were announced.

was there any confusion about tulane's invitation? the conference run by a former tv guy was systematically picking off the biggest tv markets.

that part I understood.

RE: Tulsa and UMASS mentioned as possible Big East additions
Must be nice to at least get a mention..... Marshall is so screwed in this.

5-7 and 7-6 seasons every single year in football, a basketball collapse that might even see a losing season this year, and everyone in CUSA that at least I personally wanted to stick with has either already left (ECU, ucf) or is at least getting mentions (Southern Miss) for somewhere else.

We'll get left behind and still barely get to 7 or 8 regular season wins each year. This is my classic Marshall pessimism coming through.

On one hand, i enjoy that we'll be in a slightly more regional CUSA East with strong potential for future rivalries with MTSU, ODU and Charlotte. However, I'm really worried about the perception of our conference, what types of recruits we'll be able to get along with that perception and if we're really better off or not for football. It's seeming like this conference might actually be an even draw overall for basketball (ODU, Charlotte, MTSU are all solid basketball programs for CUSA East) providing a better chance for a path to the tournament. I don't think any program will be a year-in, year-out favorite like Memphis has been, but I think these changes might improve the overall parity of the conference for basketball.

Tulsa did turn down a football only invite, with good reason it looks like at this point.

For dozens of reasons, I can't imagine either Tulane or Memphis not supporting USM for membership.

I would not think tulane or memphis would really block us. i would like to think they would be pro-usm just for the travel cost savings alone. LOL

Feel free to leave and pay up with the rest of them. Us "leftovers" are going to be rolling in $$$$$.

Gotta love it that all these schools take a step over and pay all this money to pretty much have the exact same schedule. I mean if you wanted to play Temple and San Deigo State that bad you coulda scheduled them out of Conf and saved a whole lotta money.

I'm glad Tulsa is being considered by the BE. I look forward to games with them now in CUSA and they are the strongest program in CUSA that's left.

Records tend to show we were the strongest before as well.

I'm really hoping we're last on the list to get an invite because after the Herrion BS, i don't trust Hamrick to turn down an invite to that **** league.

Any team between Boston and San Diego makes sense.

That's why the NFL should have the Patriots or Eagles, in the same division as the Chargers.... Anyone who doesnt see that, is plain nuts!03-lmfao

"Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around."

Surprising. Good to hear our name tossed around, though I don't have any idea what my preference is. I'm happy with the current future CUSA West. But who knows if it will still exist next year. Or next week.

Unless you are in the Big, Sec, or Pac that is true.
