RE: Post game quote from Stokes....
Just look at the difference in attitude between Shaq and Stokes. Shaq is out there hustling, smiling and really enjoying the game. Stokes looked like he wanted the game to hurry up and get over so he could elevate his box of wine.

Of all the awesome stats provided, this is the only one that matters: 85-80 Tigers.

Even given that Goodwin and Black would probably start over him, you don't want him as your first 4-5 option off our bench? Really?
I would love that.

Somebody always plays out of their mind in this game. We played well, but it was pretty miraculous that they were able to come back and put up 80. In 12 games, they've only done that once.
We didn't expect them to shoot as well as they did. Their percentages didn't match up to how they played last night. Their season percentages, player by player, they shot five times better than they usually shoot.
I see what you did there.

Would I want his skill and power off the bench? Sure. Wouldn't want his personality on the team though.

It definitely couldn't hurt. But he made his choice, probably not the smartest decision. What's done is done, and we have Shaq...great kid with great attitude. I'll take him over Stokes any day of the week. And next year Austin....no-brainer.

Guess you didn't see that volnation post that called Shaq our Calipari-esque ghetto thug. Nevermind that he listens to Fall Out Boy and Kings of Leon (new rock bands for you old folks who don't know them. )

RE: Post game quote from Stokes....
I think Stokes is better than Shaq at this point. Yes, he's the first option on their team so his stats are inflated, but I do think he's more skilled. So I think he'd start ahead of Shaq early on for us.
THAT BEING SAID, I think Shaq would quickly take his starting spot because of his energy and drive. Stokes doesn't seem to have those two qualities.

Having said that, we could use Stokes on this team. He is the definition of Al McGuire's "aircraft carrier" that can be a game changer.
I fully understand some of the milder critical comments because he's wearing orange and in our opinion, he made a mistake. However, we could use his size and skills without question. Even I could see that through my blue blinders.
If you asked me to choose to have Jarnell now and no Austin Later or the other way around I would choose to not have Jarnell...Jarnell doesn't add much to this team. He is marginally better than two guys we have that essentially play the same style. Austin has more range and add much more versatility to the offense.

I strongly believe that had there been a scholarship available or if one had become available (Drew or Hipps for example) that Stokes would be a Tiger. Circumstances dictated otherwise and he made (imo) a very, very poor choice of an alternate school to attend.
I hope he goes pro after this year and does very well for himself but as you say, we have better players now and we have better players coming in.

noun, Rhetoric .
1. obvious and intentional exaggeration.
2. an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”
I don't think Stokes was trying to demonstrate his prowess at statistical analysis so much as complimenting our team for much improved shooting.

Circumstances didn't dictate a thing
No we couldn't give him a scholarship that spring semester, and yes he was denied playing HS ball, but he could have waited a few months, enrolled in summer school at Memphis and started working out with the team.
He would have been on the same schedule as he had always been.
No one forced him to go to college early, it was a choice.
It could not possibly get him into the league any faster because of the one year past hs rule.
I'm not really arguing with you, other than to point out that even given the circumstances (which were also the result of a choice), he did in fact still have a choice, and he made his choice.

It was hyperbole, but it was pretty clearly not a compliment so much as a whine.
