I do give credit to Sumlin and his staff for building an offense that takes full advantage of Manziel's abilities.

IMO, that is what makes a good coach...utilizing what you have, not what you want to have....hence EJ failure vs Sumlin success (unfair comparison, but you should get the point)

Exactly my point...I would love to have him as the coach of my team any day of the week but at some point he has towin a championship to validate him being one of the top level coaches in the country.

A&M just moved to the 'best' conference and beat Bama and smoked OU....maybe I give him props early, but it is believing that makes winners....as a HC in today's game, IMO, it is all about belief....maybe Manziel tanks next year....if I am a top notch program, I roll the dice with SUM_HIM.

Like I said...I would love to have him as a coach of my team. My point was that I think he still has some things to prove before I would consider him the best or one of the best coaches in college football. There are several guys out there who have won more and won championships that I would put ahead of him at this point....but no doubt if he continues to have the success he had this season he is well on his way to doing some very special things at TAMU.

OP stated real... not best...love the spin

Right now, the game I would love to see would be Texas A&M against Oregon. That would be a great game to watch.

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL
Sumlin has done an excellent job at Gay&M but next year will be the real test. Teams will have all off season to game plan for Manziel's runs which look to me more like back yard football rather than designed plays. The Aggies could go 12-0 next year or be 7-5 and it wouldn't surprise me. Also, does he remind anyone else of a college Mike Tomlin?

I seem to recall a certain 50-43 win at Robertson a few years ago. UH's kryptonite, like all Houston sports teams outside the 1994-95 period is that they don't keep their poise when they have a chance to do big things. Again, UH won in El Paso in 2010...

I think A&M was the hottest team in the country at the end of the year. Maybe the best team in football. That is coaching. If we had a playoff, nobody would want to see them this year.

RAW jealousy...again...then reply to apropos post...either way it applies...how about this?? UH could gain championship how? You had a great coach and should be happy to have said w/Keenun

I almost forgot, it's a lot easier to forgive your coach for negotiating behind your back when you win instead of not showing up in one of most important games in school history, whether his preparation was the cause or not. Of course there will be hard feelings.

...then you are as blind as the few bats we had that expected Fed to stay after that season....the thing we (the ones with a clue) complained about was the bowl choice and keeping him to coach it....other than that, I (and most) are appreciative of what he did

BTW, what was the reason for that? I'm sure it's been answered dozens of times, but I haven't stumbled across the answer yet.

Most UH fans knew it was only a matter of time before Sumlin left for greener pastures. The thing that sticks in our craw is the manner and timing of his departure. A simple "we'll see what happens after the CCG" from Sumlin would have been enough, but apparently that was too much to ask.

BTW, UH was a conference mate of UT and TAMU for the final 20 years of the SWC's existence. During that time UT and TAMU each won 5 conference championships, while UH won 4. Houston's 66-15 win in Austin back in 1988 (the 2nd of 3 consecutive Coog wins over the Horns by a cumulative score of 173-64) remains the worst home defeat the Horns have suffered in their 100+ year history.

So yes, I firmly believe that if we ever got back to anything like a level playing field we could definitely compete with UT/TAMU.

...was part of the point...you guys had it in your hands back in the day both in hoops and football....can't remember the specifics, but still contend it is that today you are a commuter night school...so much potential you guys have but the 4th largest city in the U.S. doesn't support you guys...in scale, is very relative to some schools problem....saturation and ESPN have taken its toll....

I did, and I still think it. Heck, I thought he was the best coach in CUSA before he left and now after seeing what he has done at TAMU in no time, I've upped it to best in the college game.

It is my opinion and I know what they say about opinions.
