RE: UAB at Dayton
I like the way they fought back and made Dayton work. Two straight poor games from Swing. He ended up in double figures but 1-6 from three. When he and Purifoy (combined 2-12 from 3) shoot like they did tonight, it will be difficult for UAB to beat a decent team.
However, with some better perimeter shooting, tonight's level of performance can win a lot of games in C-USA.
Go Blazers

Monster game from Rucker. He was a huge pick up for Haase this offseason. Hopefully he and Swing can be the cornerstones of a CUSA championship team next year.
Winning the CUSA championship is the only hope we have for postseason play at this point, I'm afraid.

Good teams (Dayton) will scout us and take out Swing for at least a half with the double team.

Good thing we only have CUSA teams left then. Marshall lost by 37 today to Ohio.
Ohio's a decent team (I'm basing this on their tourney run last year, I don't really know what they're doing this season), but damn, 37? I saw they were down big at the half, but I thought Marshall could maybe get it to within 15 or 20.

And yet they're probably still going to run away with CUSA.

That's very good for Rucker. Probably puts him over 50% for the season.

RE: UAB at Dayton
I watched the game sitting next to Byron Rucker (Rod's Dad). It was a tale of "homers" and mental lapses. The refs were obviously aware that the home team normally pays the refs in non-conference away games, and they earned their money. Travelling is apparently legal in Dayton. That would not have caused the loss by itself, but we suffered many self inflicted wounds. Overall, this team never quit. Coach Haase never did a Wimp Sanderson impression (sitting slumped, head in hands ala "you know who"). Down 7 with 11 secs left, he was still standing and coaching "press, and whoever gets the ball, just grab it and shoot". 2 FTs and 6 secs later, it was a 2 possession game. This year's team reminds of 2003, CMA's first year. And you all know what happened in 2004. so, BLAZER UP!

Rod Rucker played at Northwest Florida State. My mom has attended all of the Gulf Coast State College basketball games(men and womens games), in Panama City, for the past fifteen years, or so.
She watched Rod play against GCSC. There are a lot of really good players who play in that conference. I wish Coach Haase would recruit more players from that junior college conference.
