New Assistant Coaches?
The only one I heard so far was Thad Ward who looks to be our new WR coach. Looks to be very qualified and he has Florida connections.

http://www.niuhuskies.com/sports/m-footb...12aac.html

That leaves at least 3 openings to be filled including naming our all important recruiting coordinator. With signing day just a month away I figure we should have replacements ready to go. Hopefully Carey announces this soon.

Official announcement on Brett Diersen:

http://www.niuhuskies.com/sports/m-footb...13aaa.html

He looks to be a good fit for our program. Coached the most hated player in the NFL. Both midwestern and Florida ties, similiar to Ward in that respect. Seems to be a criteria for joining Carey's staff.

No mention of him being the recruiting coordinator though. Perhaps one of the 2 openings we have will fill that. Hope that is soon.

When the whole staff is in place just figure out who the most organized/anal-retentive/administrative minded guy is and make him recruiting coordinator.

RE: New Assistant Coaches?
For me its all about conditioning. We've won in the MAC the last three years and contended on the next level because we are able to play 6 quarters of football. We excel in the third and fourth quarters as other teams are getting gassed.

Injuries have been more freak accidents than preventable accidents. The OB was a prime example. Lynch should have been DOA after the third tackle, I know he's one tough cookie, but you have to chalk that up to proper conditioning as well.

Any thoughts on a offensive coordinator? Is it going to be Cole?

Sources close to situation confirm> RT @IllinoisRivals: BTN's Howard Griffith reporting that #Illini OC Chris Beatty has been dismissed... anyone want him back?

That could actually be a great pick-up for recruiting wise and as another assitant coach, but not OC. RB coach?

He is a great recruiter! I think we should get him as RB coach and make him the Recruiting coordinator

RE: New Assistant Coaches?
Hope Mr. Compher puts in allot of the $750 000 from DD buyout back into the football program by getting great assistants.
Not so sure the current coaches choice was the best, given his failure to make adjustments or lack of strong media presence.
Can he even recruit?
Hope NIU has not taken its best FB season ever, to cash out the FB program and spread the money to other athletic programs.

Coaches convention gets rolling today. I'd expect action on the remaining spots if not immediately after, then growing out of happenings there.

Aubrey Pleasant is interviewing for the open DB spot per FootballScoop.

Current GA at Michigan. Link is to his bio there.

Not very impressed with his Bio. If we are going after grad assistants I rather have Melvin Rice.

Pretty sure Rice isn't a GA anymore.

You are correct. He is the Defensive Quality Control at Minnesota.

You never know, maybe all this time with Kill's band of tubby codependents has gotten to Rice and he's now "one of them" and will never leave them. They're weird like that.

Yeah I know. Chad Spann, Nathan Palmer, and Cory Hanson have all visited Kill at Minny this past year. I thought I heard Hanson was a GA for Kill this past year. But Nathan Palmer and Chad Spann have not visited NIU this year.

Spann was at the Toledo game, not sure if you mean at a practice to coach or not. As for Palmer he has been on the Colts. I didn't know he visited Minny, but I'd bet he's partial to Jerry considering NaPalm's first career game he torched the Gophers.
