Lville is a fine football program and obviously on it's way up the AQ ladder but there is no denying which bowl game had higher TV ratings or paid attendance. OB by a considerable margin on both counts. OB viewership was up over 40% over last's years wva clemson debactle

RE: I'm sure the Sugar Bowl is glad to have L'ville vs. Florida
The original post said that there were a lot of empty seats. It said either Florida or Louisville didn't get fans there. If Louisville had a lot of fans there, that means Florida didn't. Nothing against Louisville. They apparently travelled well. As for the ratings, well, they are what they are.

RE: I'm sure the Sugar Bowl is glad to have L'ville vs. Florida
Did you ever ask yourself why there were so many tickets being sold for $6.50? NIU (and FSU) had the unfortunate draw of playing in the same bowl that was hosting the national championship game. That game of course sold out quickly, and purchasers of those tickets received Orange Bowl tickets that they had little interest in, and were told there would be little outside interest in, and so listed them on Stubhub for much less than face value. The result was that thousands of NIU and FSU fans went through Stubhub for the discount instead of purchasing from their schools directly, depressing the respective schools' sales figures. By the end of December though the cheapest tickets you could find on SH were $60+, so the initial sellers considerably underestimated demand. The Sugar Bowl, by contrast, didn't have a flooded market of discounted tickets so the fans went through the schools and the tickets sold figure is a more accurate reflection of fan attendance.
It's great that Louisville sold all those tickets though. Though given Cards fans can drive there in a day, while practically all NIU fans had to shell out $600+ to fly to south Florida and still drew a comparable crowd, I'm still not all that impressed.

Sure the ratings were up 40%, but they were up 40% from the lowest rated BCS game. Ever. And keep in mind the Orange Bowl was the lowest rated BCS game this year. Yes the Sugar Bowl attendance was down, but it's not our fault that Florida didn't send any fans, as they've been known to do the past few years. It helps attendance considerably when a BCS game is played in the same state as one of the teams competing, for example FSU in the Orange Bowl.
The Sugar Bowl TV rating this year was slightly higher than the Orange Bowl rating, but the viewership was less. Having a non-AQ in a BCS game draws interest from people just to see how they stack up against an elite team and to see if they can pull off the upset. Once they saw NIU getting blown out just after halftime they turned the channel.

Just stop. Please. NIU was down by 1 TD going into the 4th quarter. Why exaggerate?

Please. Manuel waltzed into the endzone on the first play of the 4th quarter. Anybody who watched the first half knew NIU was being dominated on both sides of the ball. FSU led the entire game despite sleepwalking through three quarters. Lynch was running for his life on every play. NIU had one big pass play because of a defensive breakdown which led to their only score. The Seminoles doubled up on total yards. NIU's defensive line had no pass rush whatsoever. The score didn't reflect the disparity between the two teams. That game was not competitive.

Defensive breakdown? Huh? The defender was less than a step behind, it was a perfect throw. Why is it if NIU does something good it's because FSU just, by some miracle, messed up. But if FSU did something good, it's because they're just good and not a mess up by us? What's the difference? You definitely have the attitude of a fan of an AQ team. Please go back to your own board and annoy your own fellow fans instead. Anyway, yards mean nothing. If you get more yards than your opponent but don't score, whether from turnovers or otherwise, what good does it do? The scoreboard still reads the same. NIU had been giving up yardage between the 20s all year. This game was no different.

So now you're bragging about how more people watched NIU get tossed around like a ragdoll? Yep that's something to be proud of right there. You do realize this game will be used as an example on why mid majors don't deserve to be in the playoff, right? NIU was arguably the best mid major team in the country last year and got torn to pieces by a two loss ACC team. What do you think Alabama or Georgia or Stanford or Texas A&M or Oregon or Kansas State or South Carolina would've done to NIU?

I was at the Orange Bowl, and most people know that was anyone's game through the end of the 3rd quarter. Also, NIU fielded a better football team then Louiseville last season, so not quite sure why you're on this board flapping your mediocre gums.

Let's examine that claim:
Final ranking: Louisville - 18, NIU - 22
SOS: Louisville - 155, NIU - 206
Wins over top 25 opponents: Louisville - 2, NIU - 0
Final conference ranking: Big East - 5, MAC - 10
http://realtimerpi.com/football/ncaaf_10...Louisville
http://realtimerpi.com/football/ncaaf_10...n+Illinois
Other than the fact that NIU ran through a weak MAC and got 12 easy wins I don't see how you could possibly justify that claim, seeing as NIU got smacked around by the only decent team they played against all year.

Teams that Louisville tied to win the Big East (Rutgers, UC) both lost to MAC teams. So if the MAC #2, and #4 are better than the Big east co champs. I had no problem saying NIU when ranked #15 was better than Louisville when ranked #21. It happened that during bowl season things switched up, but that wasn't a crazy statement before the bowl season.

It's been over a month and we still have this Louisville fan comparing his team against the best of the MAC. Despite the Cards defeating Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
Well done MAC instigators; well done.
