Monken to keep former OC/idiot Buckley
Looks like Monken will keep Steve Buckley as a recruiting co-ordinator. Not sure i agree with this. I know he wont be "coaching" but after this past season id like to see him as far away from the program as possible.

RE: Monken to keep former OC/idiot Buckley
I understand the move. T-Monk understands (as well as most fans should) that Buckley wasn't hired by the former staff to be the OC, but be/c Bustles substance problems...errr...health issues....he was forced into being the OC. I agree Buckley was a HORRIBLE OC....but he's still valuable as an employee for the athletic department...he's got a LOT of connections/ties w/ high schools coaches across the south. T-Monk understands that...and also that we have money issues so he's keeping him on staff in some way. I'm ok w/ it just as long as Buckley isn't allowed on the field to coach any of our players (in particular our quarterbacks)...because clearly he is NOT a D-1 coach.

I guess my issue is how will recruits view him/the program after an 0-12 season where he was part of the problem.

recruits won't know or care. There are many other issues that will sway a recruits mind before whether buckley was on the previous staff or not.

Until Monken gets established, which will take a year, I'm just hoping for an average recruiting class. I don't think he can afford to lose EJ's recruits.

Has he officially named the DC yet?

I know he hired an OC from Cal.

Buckley is staying because he is under contract for one more year. Might as well keep him employed while he gets paid for that year. He won't have any contact with the current players. He is despised and lets just say, seriously disliked by the players and for good reason.

Word is Duggan is coming back, the Athletic Department is being pretty tight lipped until the entire staff is in place.

Todd Monken is HC/Game-day OC/and QB-coach
DC/linebackers coach is Dave Duggan...was Co-DC w/ Dan Disch Fedora's last year along w/ Co-DC Dan Disch...Duggan went to UNC w/ Fedora
Marcus Arroyo is Co-OC along w/ Monken....Arroyo was passing game coord. at Cal
Pete Perot is OL Coach...long time La Tech Oline coach
Mark Smith is Strength Coach...was assist strength coach at WVU
John Simon is RB coach
John Wozniak is Special Teams Coord
Steve Buckley is recruiting coord....he knows a heckuva lot of coachs in MS/south

...rumored list so far. I wanna know who's gonna coach defensive line/secondary, TE's and WR?

He's actually been a good D-1 position coach in the past. Definitely not an OC though.

This.

His hiring was the only staff move I liked by Johnson - and then he had to go screw it up by naming him OC ... after spring practice. He had about as much chance of being successful as, well, a true freshman does starting at QB at a D-1 school.

RE: Monken to keep former OC/idiot Buckley
Buckley treated players like garbage last year. He thought he was god since he brought his chosen boy to USM. I have talked to a player's dad that hates the man. Based on a couple of stories he related to me on how Buckley treated his son, I don"t blame him.
