If I hear them refer to NIU as Cinderella one more time I'm gonna lose it.

I just watched an unranked team play in the Rose Bowl and you would have thought it was the two best teams of all time battling it out. NIU us deservedly underdogs in this game but it is not even the worst or second worst team playing in a BCS bowl this year. It's not as if they came out of nowhere either. This is their 3rd consecutive 11+ win season.

I think Cinderella team means team that ESPN hasn't been pimping for years. Just STFU and announce the game. It is #12 vs #15 in the BCS rankings, not a 1 seed vs a 16 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Plus, they were building in excuses pre game about poor FSU having to play a team that shouldn't even be there and how they will probably come out flat and how they could see NIU being competitive only because FSU would be disinterested. Barf. #12 vs #15. Isn't that what we want to see? So if this were playoff era and NIU were #4 and FSU #3, then the same applies?

Plus they were talking about DeKalb saying its just outside of Chicago.

That's like saying Piscattaway/New Brunswick (Rutgers) is just outside of New York or that Lawrence is just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. It may be in the sphere of influence but no quite.

Plus they keep referring to Boise as the original BCS buster when it was actually Utah.

freaking announcers must have F.S.U. jackets on and taking a paycheck from them. My goodness it has been a long time since I heard supposedly bipartisan announcers so clearly partisan.

what's bad is i heard them say "some people didn't think NIU needed to be here".. and the first thought I was thinking was... "yeah, you stupid announcers thought that".

My sister graduated from NIU so I was rooting for them to play well and win. If i have to hear these announcers say fsu and athletic dominance im going to puke. They had momentum when they recovered the onside kick but couldnt keep it and had too many turnovers. That one fumble was bs.

I don't have any reason to pull for either team, but I will say the announcers were way too bias.

Well, under the most recent rules they are and among teams not in AQ conferences they are.

I thought for a minute they had given up the announcing jobs to MSNBC anchors. Then I remembered that ESPN is now the MSNBC of college football.

Anyone remember how bad and biased Keith Olbermann was? All of ESPN is that now.

Tulane in 1998 & Marshall in 1999 got screwed out of that glory.

Personally I didn't think NIU belonged in the that game and it actually turned out better for them than I thought it should have. If anything the announcers should have been talking about the choke-job all the teams ranked ahead of NIU pulled in the last week of the season and championship games that put NIU in the top 16. 11 wins three years in a row is impressive, but clearly NIU wasn't capable of putting up a decent fight. ESPN has to build up NIU in that instance to make it seems like they did something worthy of getting into a BCS game. I guess the only word they could come up with was cinderella, even if it didn't fit.
Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl was a laugher too. A good team no doubt, but not worthy of a BCS bowl. The Rose Bowl should have had their pick of Big East teams since Wisconsin's record was so poor. Nebraska and Wisconsin should have been flipped even though Wisconsin won the Big10. All in all, Both Big10 schools still would have lost.

NIU played by the rules and deserved to be in that game based on the BCS's own rules. I usually like Kirk Herbstreit but his whole thing of blasting NIU really lowers my opinion of him.

Based on the BCS rules yes the deserved to be there. In reality though it's hard to pretend it was an appealing matchup, much like Hawaii and Georgia a few years ago, everyone knew what was going to happen, and it wasn't going to be pretty.

This is why i avoid espn &have not watched a bowl game this year.

So what makes a school "worthy" of being in a magnificent, magical, almighty, mystifying, breathtaking BCS bowl?

Apparently winning a conference championship by beating a fellow ranked and one loss team and only losing a single game makes you dirt and not worthy of playing a fellow conference champ.

Neither have I, for the same reason.

Didn't want NIU in the game in the first place. MAC didn't do so hot in the bowl season, suprise? I still firmly believe CUSA top to bottom is a better conference.
