Move this is you like, but I wrote it while you were closing another thread and points #1 and #3 contains specific suggestions as to how you might move ahead and limit further moves.

Would you please explain to me what the MWC did that "allowed itself to become Boise's personal conference"? I say, nothing -- or almost nothing.
1. They agreed to split the BCS bowl winnings 50/50 with the team that participated. Okay, but that holds true for all conference members -- not just Boise. If Fresno goes to a BCS bowl, then we get the 50%. No special treatment.
2. They agreed to let Boise negotiate their own television deal. But the income comes to the conference and is split evenly among all conference members. No special treatment as to the money -- although letting Boise handle the negotiations is I suppose "special".
More importantly, the language that allowed for that was contained in a modified television agreement with CBS. What that did was to isolate the CBS inventory from the rest of the inventory and allow the conference to then sell everything not picked up by CBS in the 8 (I think it was) games that they bought.
Which means, that the conference can now sell (for full value) the remaining games of the rest of the conference -- including the games of anybody that they add to the conference. So if the MWC adds Houston they can get full value for Houston's games -- which means that the MWC can now go after your schools as you came after ours. That's not a concession to Boise -- that was a streak of pure genius that benefits the entire conference.
3. The conference adopted a changed in how they payout for television appearances with a bonus being paid for games shown on national television. But again, that applies to all schools -- not just Boise. If they are on every week then they will make more money than they did. And if they hire a bad coach and tank, they will make less.
Essentially what the conference did was move from a membership based compensation system to more of a performance based compensation system. It is a move that I have long supported and one that I would encourage you to make yourselves. Your top programs will be far less likely to leave to find greener pastures if they can keep what they earn in your conference, instead of having to subsidize the programs that are unwilling or unable to generate income on the field of play.
Yoda out...
