RE: OT: If Houston and SMU Do Join the MWC...?
so much talk about the remains of the BE and yet nobody really knows what it is going to be if anything. I hope USM will get some great guarantees if we join them and I mean iron-clad guarantees. Personally I think the best thing is for C-USA to just hold their cards (USM included) and see how things happen, because right now isn't the time to make the move and who knows, maybe we can get a couple of the lost teams or more if needed, to come back in. I just don't see knee jerk reactions as being anything but destructive.

Why? Honestly, I don't see why Tulsa would want to go further East rather than west?

And why are we even talking about Rice/UNT to the Big East? No offense to UNT, but at least prove yourselves on the field consistently before talking about jumping to another conference... (or do you guys want to be known as the fourth TCU type team? (TCu, Boise State, (possibly Houston/SMU) being the previous 4 teams to join the BE and then never play a down there?)

I think Tulsa would leave for the NBE over the MWC because I think they would like to be other similar private school like Tulane and Temple. I could be wrong. I'd love to hear what a Tulsa fan thinks.

As for UNT and Rice, I didn't say we would even get an invitation to the NBE. I just said we have more value if we stay together. The current lineup for C-USA West looks great right now.

C-USA West

Tulsa
Rice
UTEP
North Texas
LA Tech
UTSA

If you take Tulsa and UTEP out of that equation, and add a couple of Sun Belt programs, it starts to look like C-USA East. That would not be good.

I think Tulsa would follow SMU & Houston to the MWC, if invited. Otherwise, I think Tulsa would want at least one Texas team to join them (Rice ?) in a move to the Big East. I would guess USM would be invited along with Tulsa.

I agree. We need Tulsa and UTEP to stay put. If they do, C-USA will be in good shape. If both jump, then it could become an every man for themself situation.

Maybe to much to wish for considering the current state of things. 03-hissyfit

I'm with you, but it is out of our hands. Recent comments from Houston's administration make me think they might follow Boise to the MWC. If they can get the same deal as Boise, I can't see them passing it up. If SMU and UTEP follow suit, it could get ugly. I think Tulsa is the key. If they stay in C-USA the Western division should be okay. If they bolt for the NBE...

''This group does want to stay together,'' Aresco said. ''Everybody wants to stay in. We've had strong support from the Texas schools.''

Temple is a public university, not private.

If you do leave, do the Coogs pay exit fees to ECU and Tulane once for C-USA, and then a second time for the nBE?

I think we have some escape clauses in our contract based on income and losing AQ status. However, not sure if either applies at this point.

I don't know the exact amount but both Houston and SMU will be paying CUSA. As far as NBE, yes, we would owe them too. We weren't as smart as Boise.
