Remembering Class Acts involving Your Team
It is New Years day and I think it a good time to remember some of the great times in the past as well as the bad. I decided to limit this post to the great times (since we seem very good at mentioning the bad) and to start my entry I will mention the first meeting ever of USM and Nebraska. The Nebraska fans didn't get vicious and insulted that USM nearly beat them in their home stadium in a game that was suppose to be an easy win. Instead, when USM left the field at the end of the game, the Nebraska fans stood up and applauded the Golden Eagles. From USM fans who went, they told the Nebraska fans did compliment USM at their motels and the class was very impressive as well as appreciated.

I was going to say the same thing about Nebraska. Their fans gave a standing O to my Dawgs after our game in Lincoln. Great fans...I don't care who you are.

Mississippi State fans are some of the nicest and hospitable fans in all of college football. I made a return trip to Starkville this year to watch the Blue Raiders and Bulldogs. It seemed like every tailgate I walked past offered to feed me.

Great game day atmosphere compared to some of the other SEC venues I have visited.

My son is with the Southern Miss program and said the trip this year was nothing like he had ever experienced. They arrive several hours before the team to get things ready. When they arrived, Nebraska had people there to assist all the way from setting up to tearing down and loading post game. Many Nebraska fans approached them with a hand extended welcoming them. I wish the sec folks in our area would take some lessons.

There are probably a hundred, but 2 come to mind quickly.....

The visiting Marshall fans that stood and quietly showed respect in our first game after one of our football players was murdered off campus.

The second mirrors the USM experience at Nebraska. I've never met a UT fan that had any respect for the Memphis football program. However after playing them hard and losing only after a last minute UT touchdown drive that included a T Martin miracle 40 yard completion, the UT fans at the "tunnel" entrance/exit gave our guys respect with a standing ovation.
