In Aresco I Trust! ... (and other absurdities)
Some comments on the departure of Boise:
1) Mike Aresco (who said "TheRestGo?" Classic) hasn't earned a cent that he's been paid. Nothing has gone right for the nBE since he took office. Sure, some things were beyond his control: UofL and Rutgers were going no matter what. But losing Boise to the MWC? Come on.
And what about the decision to not sign with ESPN during the exclusive window? We don't know what ESPN offered in September/October, but does anyone think that offer is less than what we will get NOW? Good Grief.
2) Realignment obviously isn't only about markets, geography matters too. Even with all our flaws, the nBE contract would still have exceeded the MWC contract, but not by nearly enough to overcome the costs to Boise - financial and psychic - of traveling east to face schools you have nothing in common with.
3) Some around here are owed an apology, namely those labeled "debbie downers" and "trolls" all year for doing nothing more than disbelieving that the nBE was going to sign for 8-figures per school, would retain AQ, etc.. Off the top of my head, that includes:

A lot of us were slammed with hate, negative rep, .gifs, and bans. But in the end, the truth prevailed.

No one 'knew' this was going to turn out so negative... and back before RU and LV left, we were this close (holds fingers about 1 inch apart...) to the golden ring.
Kudos though, to all you who guessed right...

Aresco had no chance. No one did. This thing was going down in flames no matter who was in charge. Now, he may have let it burn down slightly faster than if someone with better abilities had been in his place, but it was still going to burn at some point.

Wrote it before, so I'll write again. Aresco is eating dinner with Marinatto at Olive Garden and with special guests: Mike Slive, Jack Swarbick, John Swofford, Larry Scott, Jim Delany, and Bob Bowlsby laughing their azzes off right now.

Nice try to rewrite history, but realignment has been a moving target for more than 2 years . . . you are not more "right" than anyone else . . . if I go to Vegas and bet on "black" and win does that make me smarter than the guy beside me who bet on "red" . . . I don't think so . . . if the Big East would have taken the $13 million from ESPiN or signed a deal during the negotiating period . . . nothing would have prevented Syracuse and Pittsburgh from leaving to the ACC; TCU and West Virginia from leaving to the Big XII; or Rutgers from going to the BIG . . . and all of the sunny "predictions" about the Big East television value may have been as right as rain . . . we will never know . . .
What is true - but you and your troll friends will never admit - is that all of this is the work of ESPiN (they now are the $$$ for the Boise home games) and what is undeniable is that ESPiN has wanted to kill the Big East as a conference for longer than you've been on this board . . . so take your fake "Big East" allegiance and head on over to the MWC board where you belong . . . oh, and you're still a troll . . .
