It's hard to speak for the administrators. I can only say what I would want if I were them.
If I'm Georgetown or Villanova, I want this to look as little as possible like a band-of-brothers and as much as possible like an assemblage of hired mercenaries. I don't think they want to be "branded" in a group with Seton Hall and St Johns.
We get a little insight into the athletically-questionable adds of SMU and Tulane--that might mean that Creighton's academic quality might count for a lot more than we would think. VCU's academic profile isn't that much worse than Cincinnati or Louisville or West Virginia, but their athletic resume is a lot thinner. (I still want them, but it's not about me).

This in a nutshell explains why Xavier, Dayton, Butler, Creighton, St. Louis and Richmond are the top candidates. There is more to realignment than just basketball

That's what I mean by institutional fit. I think it's actually going to matter a LOT for the administrators. This is where I diverge from johnbragg - I think that it is very much aimed toward being more "band of brothers"-like than just collecting the best basketball teams, although to be sure, the institutional fits and best basketball programs (unless we start talking about including far west schools like Gonzaga) are pretty much one and the same. The one conflict seems to be between SLU (very much the better institutional fit) and VCU (much better on-the-court success). Everyone else pretty much has the proper combo of on-court and off-the- court cred.

Well you can see why Xavier and Butler are locks and Dayton and Creighton are near locks. But I think you may see SLU/Creighton, Butler/Xavier, and Marquette/DePaul.

I'm glad Butler shows up well on these things, but lets real, it's all secondary.
The teams that make up this conference will be the ones that BOTH the presidents and the television partners find best.
Saw something on the Marquette board about Gonzaga seeking basketball only admittance.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it became Gonzaga, Creighton, and VCU joining Xavier and Butler.
Another thing to keep an eye on as this moves forward is seeing when/if those teams recognize they have more gravitas than the original 7. They clearly do, if for some reason they acted together

Doesn't help when Providence loses to Brown, Villanova barely beats NJIT and Seton Hall barely beats Stony Brook (perception wise).

Providence hasnt had a complete and healthy team all season. that said they still should have beaten Brown.
Will anyone really remember in a fewmonths that seton hall and villanova struggled this week? they got the W and thats what matters the most
