They act like they are and have voted with them on pretty much every conference matter.
Add them if we must, but I'd prefer not.
I think your going to have to add 3 teams at a minimum in order for it to go national. Byu is the top choice but I don't think they will come, same with af. That leaves

The idea that BE teams in texas want to travel to the west coast and to idaho for all sports is bad joke.

I don't like new mexicans anyway. Insular, animalistic, and rude to visitors. Basically just common and ugly.

My irritation with the front-rangers is their provincial nonsense, and the fact that while the WESTERN programs seem to understand that you can't have your cake & eat it too (e.g., to gain certain advantages, one must accept certain challenges & sometimes even disadvantages,) the Front-Rangers basically want to have a glorified Big Sky Conference at the FBS Level. They do not care about national TV exposure or conference reputation in football... and don't care about national TV in Hoops, yet they're ultra-concerned about national rep in Basketball. It makes no-sense.
Basically, they are a Catholic-7 wannabee league out in the Rockies & West, with their mentality on those things.
Please explain how the range schools have done anything you have posted.

How's it any different than traveling to Philly or Storrs?

Word. They'll have a close cluster in Tulane/Houston/SMU and we'll have a close cluster of SDSU/UNLV/CSU Fresno/BSU.

These are football divisions. In hoops, schools would play a single round robin (13) plus 3-5 others. Let's say it's three -- the west coast schools could play each other for 3, UH-SMU-Tulane could play each other for 2, etc., all to minimize travel. In women's hoops plus other team sports, play the minimum permitted number of games, create pods, etc., to reduce travel.

When/if Navy comes in '15, BYU or AFA should be ready.
NBE has to go to national all sports. All other conferences are regional. Be different, be big, and be the best of the rest. I believe if we ever got started schools would grow and love it.
