A large contingent of CUSA teams plus Tech would have brought better crowds due to location then Ohio, Missouri etc.. They have traditionally tried to play too big for their pants and pissed on the littler guys like us and USM over the years. When Tech has played there on occasion, it's been very successful for the game. Wonder why they haven't figured out how to have a STABLE relationship with it's closest team?

No doubt and I think a CUSA tie-in would be a good move in the future. Keep ACC and add CUSA. If UNC and U were eligible and the I-Bowl got an ACC team, I believe we would've accepted the invite immediately...and it would've been a legit 40k+....if not a sellout....but I believe I-bowl enjoyed selling the SEC vs ACC matchup all fall knowing it would take a miracle for that matchup happen. I believe they will sell a two AQ game as long as they can.

RE: Independence Bowl
Congrats to ULM on making a bowl and having a great season. I think everyone knows ULM doesn't have a large fanbase, including the Indy Bowl. They were probably hoping for more but they were not shocked either. They awarded a team that earned it on the field, good deal Indy Bowl.

AND if I was a fan of a team that couldn't fill its stadium with a SEC team in town, and then blame it on the SEC team for not bringing enough fans, I wouldn't be knocking anyone else about attendance.

AND, no matter what happend, Tech gambled on a better bowl leaving the Indy in limbo. I completely understand that. But you threw the dice, you lost. It happens. Techs fault, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

You obviously dont understand what happened.

I tell you what I do understand. I understand you are an insignificant little piece of human flesh that is envious and jealous of LaTech and as such, has attacked Tech on this board for years.

I despise and dislike you more than you know. You are in no way a real USM fan. I like and respect LaTech a great deal. LaTech is a fine University and a great addition to CUSA. Knowing that irritates you, make me very happy. So go crawl in a hole and disappear you useless idiot.
You are obviously a graduate of the La Tech brainwashing course either on campus or by correspondence, congrats as you most likely were awarded their highest honors. That should qualify you as one who could explain how Tech refusing to commit to the I-Bowl resulted in the I-Bowl unleashing a power play against them. Help us with that rationalization.

Really 04-jawdrop

I am sure that their sponsors are really happy with the really poor showing by ULM fans and how it looked on TV. The CEO of Advocare is a Tech Alum too... The Indy Bowl thought that ULM = Tech and they were wrong.

Since Tech played NIU in the bowl game just a couple of years ago we should be able to make a comparison of the attendance. There are some really nice pics on the Tech board showing both crowds.

ULM may have done themselves more harm than good yesterday.

Dude nobody in their right freaking mind would think that ULM would bring as many fans as Tech would. These people are not stupid. Sponsors are more concerned with TV veiwers than butts in the seats. If they weren't they would simply buy a banner at the stadium.

What the Indy Bowl did think was that Tech was not a program that they would allow to hold them hostage. The Indy Bowl doesn't think as highly of Tech as some of your fans want us to believe. If they did they would have bend over backwards giving you enough time to get back with them.

Not hating on Tech, it is what it is.

Tech has a had a poor relationship with the Indy Bowl since '97. I would imgine that a stadium with fans in the stadium would help TV ratings especially in the smaller bowl games against 2 non-aq teams. 01-wingedeagle

40 degrees windy and wet hurt the attendance! But not an excuse as ULm is not my team just had the day off and had free tickets!

It's cold and the weather sucks every year. I had been to 3 of the last 4 prior to this year and I froze my rear off every time. I don't see 30-35k there personally.

Aren't a lot of those chairbacks in picture #2 given to sponsors, VIPs, etc? If so, then those people didn't show up.

The seats on the sides of those sections look full and those are from the schools' allotments. Fans showed up, not the "big wigs" of the I-Bowl.

RE: Independence Bowl
For the record, the OFFICIAL attendance for the 2008 Ind Bowl was 41,567 and for the 2012 game it was 41,853.

Nobody but bitter LaTech fans care about butts in seats, that's not how attendance is ever noted or recorded.

Plus, if you think Bowls care about attendance you're crazy.

The system is rigged to guarantee the Bowl people make their ticket money by forcing the two schools to purchase the bulk of the tickets at face value, then the bowl turns around sells the remaining tickets at a discounted rate against the price the schools are charging. It's double rigged.

Like everything else in college football the only thing that matters is TV ratings. The 2008 bowl game drew a rating of just 1.0. That was the 3rd lowest rated bowl that year.

I couldn't find the Ohio v ULM ratings yet, if someone finds it please post.

You couldn't be more wrong about nobody caring about attendance figures. There is a good thread on the Tech board with an I-Bowl administrator. It will be a long time before they invite ULM back - if they ever get elligible again anyway. They had no fans and not much of team either.

Look, bottom line....they went with ULM because they were not willing to wait on Tech. Despite the great crowd you guys took up there last time and despite the obvious fact they knew ULM would not match it. It reeks of you guys overplaying your hand. They had much more to gain with Tech being in that game. Something pissed them off. It wasn't ULM.

A poor relationship with the Indy Bowl since '97??? How does that happen? A pretty good bowl game, with a damn good pay out and in your home state. How many AD's have you had since then? None of them could repair that relationship?

Carry on with you hating of ULM. Never understood myself. You guys claim you are better than them, and in most ways you are. But you always feel the need to put them down. Its almost like you need to convince yourselves of it.
