Yes I know they have a campus in Boston and tons of their alumni live in Boston but those people dont show up to the games in droves. Id love to know what their average attendance in basketball is.

The point of the market is who watches on tv. TV brings in far more money than people in the stands now.

If people from Boston want to watch UMass on TV (i dont know if they do or not) then they carry the Boston market enough to be worth being in the discussion.

Hell ******* no to hybrid memberships. Good God what is wrong with you basketball schools that happen to play football? This is why I'm FOR an all sports conference with SDSU, Boise, UNLV, etc.

...... and like it or not ECU is in for all sports. Deal with it.

The football 11 have 9 teams, adding ECU dilutes what you have in the top half even more than Tulane, SMU, and Houston currently does.

UMASS would be a wonderful addition along with UNLV. I think UMASS even represents a way back into New England for football once UCONN leaves. The problem the Football 11 is going to have is that the sales pitch of "come play basketball with the Big Boys" (UCONN, UC, Memphis, Temple) is a hard sell b/c of the perception that UC, UConn are out the door.

A school like UMASS might find greener pastures by joining VCU in the C7 conference. I'm sure that both conferences will be competing for a few bball only's.

You will pardon us if we don't listen to a Providence fan on matters related to football. That is what got this conference in trouble in the first place. How does ECU dilute the conference and you say we should invite UMass?? Good grief. You northeasterners should get out more. How long has UMass played D1 football? 1 year?. UMass is a non-starter. The nBE needs good football teams with strong followings. If they happen to be in a decent TV market that's a plus but we have enough markets for TV at this point. We still have plenty of basketball firepower without the likes of Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul, well you get the picture. They will not be missed.

No more basketball only's for the nBE. That was a stupid model. If the c7 wants UMass go for it. I'm sure the c7 will have a fine bball league after they grab a few more teams. However, the strategy of the c7 and the nBE football schools are (and should be) totally different.
