There have been elite teams come to the Sun Bowl and show a lot of class. ND for one. Most fans enjoy the hospitality and the bowl game, etc, but USC has the nose in the air attitude that really irritates the hell out of me. Pulling for GT for sure.

memphis has seen a few of these situations with the liberty bowl (ohio st and texas a&m jump out). the shame is on them, blow it off cause they will be gone in a few days but you'll have the money.

I read the article as well and I was always under the impression that, kind if like the Hawaii bowl (except that the Sun Bowl draws a crowd even if UTEP isn't playing), most of the crowd was local fans. Can you give me an idea of what the breakdown of USC fans/GT fans/El Paso residents will be in attendance on Monday?

I couldn't care less. Neither team gets me excited about this game. I'm still boycotting the sun bowl.

Tough to call as to the makeup of the crowd. Generally when I attended the Sun Bowl game the crowd of approximately 50k would be 40-45k El Pasoans. With picks from PAC 12 and ACC it means that the fans of the schools coming to El Paso are not going to be very excited since their team will have 4 or 5 losses and this year GT is 6-7. Can't imagine traveling all the way from Georgia to see this meaningless game. El Pasoans support it well.

I would love to see the game go for at least 1 conference champ. Either C-USA or MWC or both.

Georgia Tech shouldn't even be in a bowl this year. Teams should have to have better than a .500 record to go bowling.

A&M fans trash talked Memphis? That's a hoot. College Station reminds me of Jonesboro as much as anything else. Not putting either town down, just a disconnected thing for Aggie fans to say.

Just to add to it here is another story about USC and how they were over an hour late for a dinner put on by the Sun Bowl Association.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-s...ncaaf.html

Stuff like this happened last time they were here and TCU kicked their a$$. The crowd was 80% for TCU in that game. It also happened one time during the 80s with SMU thinking they were too good for the Sun Bowl with their 11-1 record and Alabama shut SMU out. I hope the crowd boos everything USC does at the game, to include their band and cheerleaders. I also hope the Sun Bowl never invites them back. They should have picked Arizona.

Who cares what a guy in his late teens/early 20's says or thinks about anything. More than likely that player will never get a chance in the NFL and will go back to whatever place he came from. I would be worried or angry if this came from a school official or one of the coaches but a kid? Not so much. If he hates playing in El Paso/Sun Bowl then he should blame him and his team mates for not getting the job done and playing in a "nicer" city. USC was ranked #1 in the preseason and the favorites to play the SEC champ in the National Championship in Miami.

I believe college players should be banned from tweeting during the regular season and the postseason. Too many distractions and it avoids the kind of situations we're talking about in this thread.

Other USC players had tweeted some flattering stuff about El Paso. All teams will have both sides of it. Coaches should always talk to the kids so they don't have to be in damage control mode later.

In the end, the student athletes have to understand they are ambassadors of the university.

That said, Go GA Tech!03-lmfao

they just didnt want to be there back in 75. they were ranked #1 and headed to the cotton bowl but arkansas beat the snot out of them in little rock on the last game of the season and they wound up in memphis instead where USC (ironically enough) skull drug them 20-0. at no point in the entire week and game did they give any indication of wanting to be there.

Individual tweets from players don't bother me. The entire team being 90 minutes late for a dinner hosted by the Sun Bowl is another thing.

The player that tweeted or the head coach? :)

A case could be made that the player is more mature than Lane Kiffin.

That was certainly a slap at the hosts of this event. The USC team not bothering to show at the dinner until after Georgia Tech had already left was incredibly insulting not only to many people that had planned the event, but also to all the supporting sponsors that were attending.

The "University of Spoiled Children" name sure seems to fit these brats this week.

What can we expect other than that Southern California mindset. Even for out of town fb players they very quickly assimiliate into its culture. That Valley Girl feeling 04-chairshot that even transplants into Colorado from California are starting there.
