Most Chiefs fans and reporters are not happy with Poe at all. He has to start making more tackles per game. I think he is coming along OK and will be even better next year. But, being their first round draft pick, they were expecting more.

RE: Play by play with D. Poe vs Panthers
Final analysis by blog writer -

1) Poe's technique has improved. I saw a couple of plays where he tried too hard to get low and went down on one knee, but other than that he was good with it. Didn't turn sideways at all that I saw, which is huge (stares hard at Jerrell Powe). He's still coming along as a 2-gap player, and looks to be susceptible to cutbacks. For a guy touted to be absolutely and completely raw, though, I was really impressed.
2) Poe cannot be handled by an individual C. Granted, the Panthers aren't sporting a top three guy, but the physical domination Poe exhibited was extremely impressive. I love, love, love seeing him lined up directly over the C, because that usually meant he was going to shove the guy a couple yards backward if no one came to help.
3) There is indeed a domino effect when your NT is dominating the other team's C. Poe drew a lot of attention throughout the game, and it only increased as the game went along. Especially on passing downs. There were several times you could see Hali or Houston alone against a T because Poe was occupying whatever G was on that side along with the C.
4) If it's true that Poe was a terribly green prospect with a "long ways to go" before he reaches his potential, the sky is the limit. The man already draws double teams on virtually every passing down and often on running plays. His ability to impose his will on an NFL offensive lineman is something to marvel at. If he even goes up just one more "level" (whatever that means) he'll be worth the pick at #11.

Completely contrary to what everyone else says, which confirms that your negative delusional analysis is dead wrong...as usual. Thank you very much for reinforcing the truth.

Tigerlands -

You do understand the core responsibilities of a NT, right?
1. Occupy space inside between the guards; clog the middle; stuff the inside running game
2. Get a physical push up the middle; force double (and TRIPLE) teams to free up DEs/LBs
3. Pass rush if in attack mode

Tackles are WAY on down the list. If a NT gets 15 tackles a year and 3 sacks, that is phenominal.

Based on this one game blog analysis, it seems Poe is doing QUITE a job. Do the "production numbers" reflect it? No, but most fans and the media aren't aware of what a NT does. I bet the Chiefs defensive coaches love what he is doing as a raw rookie.

He possibly understands...

1. Certain grunting sounds
2. Anything negative

Anything you articulate outside of these very very narrow parameters will be a complete waste of time.

Yep...NT's are responsible for collapsing the line and trying to draw extra attention. Their "numbers" are always low.

Yeah, Poe is ahead of where he needs to be now.

With all apologies to TG4, I can't help but think where he might be now if he had had some really excellent coaching.

LOL.

He played great against the Panthers. Most Chiefs fans and their media are not happy with the following:

-- GM Scott Pioli
-- HC Romeo Crenell
-- The general direction of the team
-- The complete ineptitude on offense
-- Lack of a quality starting QB
-- The fact that they will most likely lose D. Bowe and others

Poe is not even on that list.

RE: Play by play with D. Poe vs Panthers
I'm a KC resident and Chiefs fan who has sadly watched every game. Poe has been fine, and improving. That's all fans hoped for this season, because expectations were set early on (raw, needs to develop, etc.). The lack of a QB and GM Scott Pioli are the primary gripes, with everything else being down the list. I'd be shocked if there isn't a house-cleaning, but Poe is a guy that's part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Being a Chiefs fan, I can safely say there's long line of heads to put on pikes outside One Arrowhead Drive before anyone gets to Poe. Chiefs fans are too busy wanting to physically fight Scott Pioli to be too down on their project lineman. He's shown glimpses, and I don't know anyone whose opinion I value who's really been hating on him beyond the continuation of the "draft a DL in the first round because the last one didn't fix it" philosophy.

I just hope the forthcoming GM/coaching turnover doesn't put him in a bad situation. That would be the Chiefs way, though.

Never apologize to TG for making a honest observation. Instead, TG should apologize to each of us for his constant negative comments about the future success of the new Tiger staff.
