Y'all had bad luck which should be factored into the grade, IMO. An "F" seems a bit harsh.
What bad luck did they have? I mentioned in the preseason thread that they were overrated. They were not even that good before Kane got hurt; and on top of that, when a school takes as many academic risks as Marshall then you have to expect some of those guys not to pan out. So they didn't have any bad luck. They are what we thought they where; which is a streaky team with a manic coach. FWIW, F might be a bit harsh for them; I would have probably given them a C-, but they are not as good as people thought.
IMO that grade for ECU is the one that is too low. The 3 games that ECU lost were on the road against 3 top 70 RPI schools. Everyone knows UNC-Charlotte and UNC had good RPI's, but apparently folks are overlooking the fact that UMass had an RPI of 33 when ECU played them in Amherst on Saturday. UMass now has an RPI of 23.
I think that the rest of the grades are fair (Tulsa may be a bit high), based upon the competition that the other programs have played. Memphis is still the team to beat; but USM, UTEP and ECU should give them a pretty good run for their money this year. Hopefully, Pastner can meet the challenge.
I rated Tulsa so high because they had a new coach, and players transfered. They have done great considering what was expected so a C+ is fair. ECU has neither exceeded nor failing short. Close losses can be a sign of good things but until a team gets a W then IMO a grade of C is fair. I am in no way saying this is how the standing will be at the end of the season, rather just a progress report as to how they have done up to this point.

Losing their best player (Kane) to injury is the opposite of good luck, but let the reader decide the merits of our opinions.

I understand what you are saying, but he has only missed about 3 games. They played 10 games before he was injured and when he was there Marshall lost to Hofstra and they barely beat Coppin State and UNC-Wilmington.

RE: CUSA Basketball Report Card
Passing through hoping to find some pertinent CUSA recruiting budget information to use on a future date on internet radio, and saw this topic. Good thread. From what I've been able to observe so far this year, Conference USA basketball has yet to score a signature win in OOC play, please enlighten me if that is not the case. Against one another, we'll make history. Because of that, I grade the conference "C-" for this year. UAB has lost to all of its' ranked opponents on schedule this year, namely North Carolina & Creighton, and the "Event" (my name for the Memphis game) is coming up in a couple of weeks.

UTEP over Oregon
USM over Western Kentucky (although WKy's RPi has been slipping lately)
Memphis over Ohio
Those are really the only "high profile" wins we've had so far this season. So i can't really complain when people say we're not really making a mark this year as a conference.

If we are counting Western Kentucky then you would need to add UTEP's win over Nebraska.
Oregon 57
Nebraska 58
Western Kentucky 80
Ohio 145?

(and last time I looked, Ohio was at an RPI of 92), but that might have changed.

@Miner_Nation: UTEP's strength of schedule ranks 9th in the country and we have the 3rd highest rated RPI in CUSA! #UTEP
Not bad considering we are the 12th youngest team in the nation.

UTEP has the second highest RPI in the conference at 95 according to realtime RPI.

Honstly, Sagarin can go blow himself when ti comes to basketball..
RPI/Warren Nolan (IMO) are the only numbers that matter to me in that sport.
