I would say he was pretty successful with his plan.......We'll never know where would be if Coach Joe hadn't come along and done the above. Think about how far we've come. It's staggering.

Record of 3-30 for first 3 years would get all coaches fired today. Just look what the rich alumni are talking about at U of I after one year. Credit is due to the AD and administration in believing in Coach Novak.

UofI was not in nearly the shambles NIU was. And there were a lot of reasons to question the Beckman hiring beyond the W/L record. Add to the fact that they didn't even want him in the first place, and he's going to be judged much differently. Shouldn't compare the two situations.

No, It should be Joe Novak stadium. I was an early Joe hater on the old teamates, board but I was waaay wrong. HE is the REASON we are where we are at. Pettibone, kill (notice no capital K), Doeren all were part of the good NIU times, but Novak is NIU football.
