I drink scotch, primarily, single malt. But as for bourbon, Woodford is pretty good. Bulleit is subtle and complex, I've enjoyed it in the past. I like the rye taste. But again, I'm more of a scotch guy, not a big bourbon fan generally so I can't claim to be a connoisseur.

RE: OT: Bourbon
what list? i didn't know that. i bought a bottle last night for my dad for x-mas. we be poppin it tomorrow evening. it's the bourbon that brought me back to corn whiskey after 25 years of SM scotch.

we usually drink for the holidays.

one of my friends told me that Ulysses S. Grant used to have whiskey from that distillery smuggled in to him when he was at the military academy. according to this friend, who is a history buff, Grant kept a supply of Buffalo Trace whiskey at the white house for honored guests and himself. i can't recall what he referred to it as.

not sure if true but i have no reason to doubt.

Blanton's as a treat. Evan Williams right now as an everyday pour. Makers as a step up for an everyday pour. I bought a bottle of that Bookers in the wooden case last year, 100 plus proof, didn't really enjoy it that much. On the lookout for the rare Pappy Van Winkle.

RE: OT: Bourbon
For a mid level bourbon knob creek can't be beat in my opinion. I love it. Most of Beam's small batch offerings are very good. Maker's was my standard for a long time and I still partake regularly. I have an aversion to the eastern brands such as woodford, I prefer the product from around Bardstown. I think it has to do with my association with the eastern part of horse country being snobbish, UK jackasses and the distilleries out past Four Roses/Wild Turkey and Lawerenceburg tend to market in that uppity vein.

For a simple bourbon and coke, it's my dads Henry McKenna. What I normally stock is either Woodford or Buffalo Trace. I can't stand the stench of regular Beam, but the red stag is tolerable for a mixed drink.

That used to be my go to bourbon...but my last two bottles were swill that I had to resort to mixing just to finish. I'm officially done with Knob Creek.

I've spent more time lately with Scotch and good Tequilas (that I get imported from TX, because the selection in TN is garbage).
