Big 12, SEC, B1G or PAC 12 isn't happening. We must try to do everything possible to get into the ACC, even if it gets raided, the league will basically be the Big East we signed up for.

Which is the main reason why UC would never be realistically considered. There's no extra BTN money in it for the conference.

I have heard in person, from 2 different B1G ADs, that they will first look at schools ALREADY in B1G footprint. A LOT of negative feedback from fans with the Rutgers and Maryland additions...same deal with the conference names Leaders and Legends and having OSU and UM in different divisions, etc...the B1G is going to be re-doing the conference alignments between 2014-2015 depending on the next 2 schools added.

IF Cincinnati is on the verge or becomes an AAU school within the next 18 months, I think we would be more likely to be in the B1G than the ACC. IMHO, I wouldn't sell Cincinnati short.

Merry Christmas!

Actually Cincinnati would expand the footprint, not hundreds of miles like Maryland and Rutgers but 100 miles further south than it is now. That said the B10 network already charges in state fees in Cincinnati so no additional revenue is generated. If we are in line for AAU membership and if teams are unhappy with the geographic expansion I guess it is concievable that we would be considered, not sure that either of these are true though. Keep in mind that the bigger the B10 gets the less influence O$U will have. Right now they're only one vote out of 14.

We have a better chance of ending up in the AFC North than the Big 10. You guys must be hitting the egg nog a little too hard.

Actually if SeniorBearcat thinks it's POSSIBLE, I believe it. Now, the PROBABILITY of it happening, is another matter.

Don't fans buy tickets / demand to watch their teams on TV = $$$$

Maryland and Rutgers were the TV money grabs that B1G schools held their noses for and voted yes for even though fans unanimously disliked the moves...Jim Delany is not stupid...he WILL not add 2 more teams from outside the B1G footprint again (maybe 1, not 2) and really piss everybody off again...Cincinnati is in the mix of 4-6 schools vying for 2 spots, and we are either second or third in votes fwiw depending on 2 different takes I have heard from ADs.

It's possible for me to hook up with Jessica Alba... it's that probability thing that's keeping my calender open.

Edit: Maybe that's why the ACC and Big 12 didn't want us. They're sick of the Big 10 stealing their teams.

Well, who else is in the Big Ten's footprint, besides Pitt, Cincy, ND, and a slew of MAC schools?

(edit) wait, forgot Iowa State...

I don't think Cincinnati will end up in the B1G, ACC is more likely, but to say we have no chance is flat out wrong. The B1G will not take GT and UNC, or Duke and UVA, etc...a UC and Pitt combo would get as many votes IMHO...the next move will have 1 team add a new market, and another team to shore up an existing market. Ohio is a big football market...

Look at NFL teams...

Over a third of NFL teams are in B1G country, and football rules the Media...

I also didn't think RR was going to be hired by Mary Sue Coleman and Bill Martin when they met here in Toledo at this office, so what do I know.

Last post before shutting the office down and getting ready for XMAS...

My educated guess would be UVA or GT in Division A and Pitt or UC in Division B.

Hope everybody has a Merry Christmas!

The Big Ten Network is the key and there will always be enough fan support in their respective states to dictate BTN coverage and high revenues. If he's focused on remaining in the region, it's going to be a Syracuse and/or Virginia. UC makes zero financial sense and that is what expansion will boil down to.

Fans almost always hate change and are emotional, that's where their name comes from.

RE: "I think they’ve got a great shot to get into the ACC"
Look folks UC is not getting an invite to the Big10. We offer no new market for them. You could say we will be good in hoops and better than several programs in football right out of the gate...we would but that is not what drives expansion. Look at Maryland and RU. Do we have better football and hoops collectivley than Maryland and RU right now? Hell yes...but that is not the issue. OSU is already in Ohio...maybe not stronghold in cincy but they are represented.

UC does make sense to B12 or ACC....at least it adds a good market and the kicker for either conference is they get good football and ranked hoops along with it.

I get that we dont add a new market but is it possible BTN can increase the fee they charge in ohio if they add uc? lets say they charge 1.00 per household with ohio state and the same 1.00 per household now in maryland. could the BTN justify charging 2.50 with adding uc by having basically a monopoly in the state on college football?

It's logical the b1g or big 12 doesn't need UC and we dont get an invite. It's more likely we get into the ACC. It's also possible UC gets stuck in the cold.

But we have a guy on this board with sonewhat "insider" information that the b1g has considered UC for addition.

I'm not going to p1ss on that, but it's not like Im counting on it. No one really has a clue what's going to happen next. I'm not so sure people can be confident in any prediction right now.

That is probably the best reason for them to move on us. So that it deprives another league of our TV market and recruiting base.

Obviously, you can say the same about Pitt. I'm guessing Pitt, already being in the AAU, has a big edge over us, if they are taking only one.

At least your explanations of this thing are making it a bit interesting.

The funny thing is at one point Pitt was rumored to be an expansion candidate for the B1G just a couple years ago. If invited, Pitt would leave the ACC for the B1G in a heartbeat. Regardless, I don't see UC or Pitt going to the B1G ever.

Again just thinking out loud here, but suppose Maryland does end up having to fork over the full $50 million to leave the ACC? I could actually see scenarios where it could help UC get an invite to a bigger, expansion hungry conference. We could be seen as a good product with a good recruiting and TV market which could come a lot cheaper and with less hassle than poaching a team from a conference with an odious exit fee or GOR hanging over their head. Keep hope alive...
