What if UAB had not...............
Started a FB program and been able to maintain a high level of basketball success. Could the Blazers be a team being mentioned to play in the new C7 basketball conference?

A lot of what ifs I know but I have always been of the opinion UAB Basketball would have been just fine without football. But that's just me.

If the BOT won't let UAB football thrive, what's the point? That's not intended as an insult.

I'm guessing one day they'll let UAB more or less alone.

RE: What if UAB had not...............
UAB is a prime example of doing one thing excellent, attempting another &
letting the quality go down at what they use to excel in.
Like when Mercedes bought Chrysler.
Restaurants make the mistake frequently.

UAB was poised to be in the upper echelon of basketball schools & the Alabama BOT was fine in the support of the quest.
But they brought football to the epicenter of Alabama football -Birmingham- & have paid a severe price ever since.

Which makes you wonder why the BOT even allowed UAB to sponsor football when they were not going to fully support it.

VCU doesn't, but the rest are small private schools in relatively major cities.

RE: What if UAB had not...............
If (when?) the Big East falls apart and the BE and C7 raid the A-10, UAB (if they had leadership, and I don't think we do) could leverage basketball and the southern market to join as an olympic sports team and place football in a temporary position (independence? sun belt? CAA?) until it was ready to invest in a stadium and move into the Big East/C*USA.

Right now, the only position we are in is to maintain C*USA, doing literally nothing other than collect departure fees.

No. UAB does not meet the profile of the C7 schools. They will go after Xavier, Dayton, Butler etc. All private, midsizdd, urban basketball schools.

VCU makes me wonder, because it doesn't fit C7 profile. I'd expect to see Richmond get the nod instead.

Is there really a perception that fielding a football program has had a detrimental effect on Blazers' basketball? I just don't see the connection.
