My wife who is a school teacher in the Battle Creek area just informed me that all classes are canceled tomorrow for all Battle Creek area schools due to unspecified threats.

She also informed me that Genesee County schools are also closed tomorrow for the same reason. So, this is what it has come down to, closing schools for unsubstantiated threats.

I guess the only solution is to homeschool all of our children, and arm ourselves to the teeth with assault weapons.

They're also concerned that the nut jobs will be running wild tomorrow. I still think its ridiculous.

They aren't taking any chances right now. Nobody wants to be the one that didn't take it seriously...even if the odds are slim.

It is like this for school systems across the state. I know many local districts over here (N-NE of Detroit) are doing the same thing.

She also mentioned something about the Mayans, UFOs, and Bigfoot.

My roommate volunteers at a local elementary school a couple days a week. This week only about half of the kids were in class.

Kalamazoo and area schools have closed as well. Not because of rampant influenza. Not because of slick roads. But because of threats to schools. Incredible! Feeling sad for the elementary school kids, who will miss their holiday parties today, seeing it was the last scheduled school day before the holidays. They always look forward to the end-of-school holiday parties.

It's time to legislate penalties for these threats, bomb hoaxes, etc. As it is, there are none. Make them felonies with fines and extended jail time. We cannot continue to allow these domestic terrorists to hold us hostage!
