You mean how we could have had four of our recent to-be-departees (And they're not ECU and Tulane), stood with C-USA, the BE would have been in serious trouble itself?

Yep C-USA had 2 times they could have done the same thing to the Big East, but neither time were all the teams willing to tell the Big East no. The MWC is either going to be a big winner in all this or be on their death bed. If they hold strong they could end up being potentially the strongest gang of 5 league, but if they don't they have no expansion options and could face death as a league in the not too distant future.

And yes, the merger proposal would have virtually killed off the BE if we would have all stayed together a year ago. Oh well.

Pretty sure that Tulsa, Rice and UTEP, all rumored to be interested in the MWC recently, would be not be interested but would be interested in annexing a couple of MWC schools for C-USA.

Same thing could have been said in 2004...however, is there any certainty your comrades will stay true? The only sure move at that point is to move.

That conference is a disaster. They need to skip the inevitable blow up and just form a new conference without Boise and SD State.

I don't see either Fresno or UNLV wanting anything to do with nBE. If some do leave, that makes it less desirable for UTEP & Tulsa

Why is it a disaster?

A bunch of non-AQ teams from coast to coast. That's ridiculous. USM is as good as Fresno St and La Tech and Tulsa are better than UNLV. All this for Boise St's football team?

Pretty much yes. If the west thing fails you can always reform C-USA under a different name. If the merger 2.0 is worth more then that's what needs to be done, and if it's not then go with the backup plan.

I thought the eastern teams thought the original Alliance (MWC/CUSA) was a horrible idea.... And yet, here it is....

If this happens, then I suspect an ALL SPORTS Conference with USM, UTEP, Tulsa, AFA, New Mexico, Colorado State, Rice, Utah St, Nevada, Wyoming, and UNT/UTSA (for geographical reasons), and maybe a couple of others, could form. And this one wouldn't be coast-to-coast.

I wish I knew where that post was that had all the reasons why a move to the Big East was a huge step up... and then the timeline was thrown out there..

BE: Hey, come on in, we've kept our BCS AQ status.
Power5-cashier: Yeah, that credit card of yours was rejected...
Be: But we've got a line of credit on our $1b+ TV contract.
BE presidents: Hold out, we can get better!
BXII/ACC: Psst.. here's a bird in the hand.
TV Executives: You don't want our 1b credit line, okay, we'll get back to you on that new number...
BE: But we still have that NY/PA market for our credit-line..,. Hey, where'd Syracuse and Pittsburgh go? Rutgers did you see where they went?
BE: And we've still got some much better football teams. Did anyone see where West Virginia went? Hey Notre Dame, would you expla.. hey, where'd that leprechaun go? Louisville, can you find that short Irish guy.... er.. louisville?
BE: We're still a much stronger basketball league.
Catholic-7: Yeah, about that....
BE: Hey Boise, SDSU.. that's not the closet door, that's the outside driveway, I know the Mormons didn't come to the party, but still we got that Green Wave party bunch from New Orleans due to arrive.... (no offense Tulane fans, I just had to pick a school :) )

Just having a little fun with all this..

Since this is a Conf USA board, the question is this, if UNLV and Fresno joined the BE, would it have any effect on Conf USA. I say not much at all.

Joining the nBE doesn't make any sense for any current MWC teams

It could if the MWC is not stable enough to try to make a play for UTEP/Tulsa/etc.

I thought it was a good idea, if it could manage to get a TV deal of 3 million a year or better. I think it was clear that without Boise, UCF, Memphis, Houston, SDSU, and SMU it couldn't get 3 million plus to make it worth the short term hit in terms of lost buyouts and credits. Will the new version of the merger be able to hit a TV number to make it worth it? I don't know. It's a fine idea if there's enough money in it, and if there isn't then it's not. We'll find out soon enough.

If the Big East takes 3 or 4 more MW teams, your idea would be a very good way to go.

Yeah the Big East raiding the MWC is actually good for C-USA. If they lose 2 or more members no C-USA teams are going to that mess and it means that likely C-USA won't lose anymore members to the Big East.

Be a lot easier just to move those C-USA teams into the MWC. And then C-USA finally finishes off the sunbelt.

It would also make it easier for the MWC to add an eastern division, which might be good for 1/2 of C-USA that moves but not so for the other 1/2. C-USA gained some with its expansion, but also lost some leverage.

I think C-USA is still vulnerable to a raid by nBE as long as UConn and Cincy are still there. Don't think the possible addition of UNLV and Fresno change UConn and Cincy's aspirations
