Exclamation First day of mid-year signing period
It lasts a week. We should have QB Jeremiah Briscoe and WR DeVante Scott, but missed out on 2 JUCO MLBs to LaTech: Nick Thomason and Tony Johnson.

Any others?

If getting Briscoe cost us the two red-shirt QBs from last year (Greer and Craft) , we can only hope he will be worth it. If any others are going to leave, we should know by the end of the holidays.

Trey Jenkins told me that he is considering #ULL, #NorthernIllinois and #UAB after decommiting from the Blazers.

Dang, i thought we were gonna improve in the secondary. Oh Well, if im correct. I think he committed before or early into the season. So he probably jumped on the "We can win now" bandwagon. Yet we lost to Memphis and tulane, both games we were supposed to win. Tulsa and ECU, we shouldnt have been in the game at the end. Couldnt pull out the win. If Only, If Only.

The whole "commitment" thing is starting to be BS.

Is starting to be BS? I think that's putting it pretty lightly.

Maybe I've missed the discussion, but how does UAB sign a "4 star" QB last June and no one knows about it until a few weeks ago? Did it really happen that way, or am I missing something in this story? It would seem nearly impossible in this media age to delay a story like that for five months, particulary with a QB rated on the higher end of any we've ever signed.

I was thinking the same thing. Until last week I had never heard anything about this kid.

There's not been anything said about him on the recruiting forum, unless I am mistaken.

RE: First day of mid-year signing period
It isn't any different than a player signing in February and joining the team in August (or whenever they join).

I don't believe anywhere there is a rule that says that you have to enroll in August if you sign a LOI during the summer.

It isn't that common, but it still can be done.

Maybe McGee thought the QB thing needed to shake out a little before Briscoe enrolled.

I understand that. I think we were just wondering why we never heard his name before now.

It is possible McGee asked him to keep it quiet until after the season.

Since we aren't that school to the west, no media in this state cared.

6.1.2012

Quote:Jeremiah Briscoe (football, Alabama-Birmingham), James Broussard (cross country/track, Houston), McKenzie Martin (volleyball, Queens University), Ford Story (swimming, TCU) and Kathryn Wood (soccer, Colorado School of Mines) signed with Division I or Division II programs after leading Stratford teams to playoff victories and state meet success.

Quote:Briscoe has had an eventful high school career, from which college he planned on playing for to which high school he quarterbacked. A TAPPS all-state selection while at Second Baptist, Briscoe was originally committed to Baylor.

“The recruiting process for me was definitely a roller coaster," Briscoe said. "I got my first offer my sophomore year from Baylor and it’s kind of gone up and down since then. I’ve landed where God wanted me to.”

Briscoe transferred to Stratford prior to his senior year and earned the starting quarterback role. It did not take long for Briscoe to fit in with the Spartans and the on-field results were positive, including more than 1,800 passing yards, a 7-5 record their first playoff victory since 2008.

“I couldn’t have asked for anything more," said Briscoe, who plans on majoring in business and finance at UAB. "It was perfect. Stratford’s been absolutely great. I’ve benefited a lot from it on and off the field. I’ve made some great friends and it’s been everything I could ask for.”

I know it's a "highlight" tape and not a low light but this is impressive.
