How do you guys feel about him? 117 to 48 in total defense looks pretty good. Were you happy with the job he did this year? Does he run a 3-4 or 4-3? Anything he does poorly?

Swapping coaches is something you do when your trying hard to "not get fired"... I think I have seen enough "noticeable improvement" to be happy with things just the way they are.

Don't listen to 'em. Our D was only good against bad competition. Tech doesn't want him. He did OK in C-USA but could never hack it against Big XII(-II) offenses. 03-wink

Our defense improved faster than our offense, and given Coach Fuente's offensive credentials and where our defense has been, that surprised me.

I only got to come into town for the Rice WIN (and stayed through the end)

But I could tell at that point that we had really turned a corner.

I'm excited about everything about our team for next year, and definitely for our defense

He took basically the same talent we had last year minus a first round draft choice and made significant improvement. I do see other schools coming after him once the talent level improves and the rankings improve.

Well many of our fans don't want him. Being stuck as a admin for 6 years is a red-flag but it looks like he runs a 4-3 which is a definite plus for us. Obviously your HC saw something to make him a DC.

Hopefully for your sake our fans get their wish. If Odom is the choice for us then I won't be too disappointed.

We ran a 3-4 this year.

Tech ran off the best coach it ever had and now hires a Leach clone. Way too much politics and sand down there.

If you're interested, we have connections to the inventor of the ultra-successful 3-3-5 defense. It could revolutionize the Big XII.

a contributing factor to our defense's success this year was the ball control offense that Fuente implemented. Run to win pass to score.

Brian Billick was hired by Baltimore because if his role in the prolific Minnesota offenses in the late 1990's...and at Baltimore, his defenses thrived while the offense was the butt of jokes.

Go figure....

RE: DC Barry Odom
We ran a 3-4 most of the time, with a Tamap 2 cover zone. It took time, but the DB's and the LB's really played well the end of the year. Timing the blitzes took some time, but once they got their timing down, we really picked it up. Remember how we didn't have a sack until the Duke game. We averaged 3 per CUSA game and were in the top 5 in tackles for a loss.

2013 will be a better year and we will be a better team. I would be happy if we only improved X 1.5% each year.
