I'm no architect, but it seems to me that addition depicted is a different architectural style than the existing stadium. Looks 50's modern or bauhaus to me.

Again, I like the idea, but not the look.

I think there's still a lot to be hashed out, but preliminarily, I'm going to have to disagree. Nippert Stadium's "architectural style" is basically limited to the outdated and tired looking press box and pavilion. The rest is the architectural style of surrounding buildings, which I would argue is fairly diverse and, aside from Dieterle, pretty modern. This includes the new CRC and Lindner Center. I have confidence that whatever is built will fit into the context.

Babcock did say that it will fit in with the campus architecturally. He said something along the lines that (very much paraphrasing)...it is sharp...if you look around campus, there aren't many rectangular buildings and this will fit in with campus.

The way it sounded to me, they're going to raise as big of a "down payment" as possible on the structure and then finance the rest so they can break ground once they hit a magic number.

He also shuffled a bit on the capacity issue -- I think when this is said and done, they'll increase capacity to ~40K. He mentioned specifically that he likes "round numbers."

Also, I took away that he didn't seem to project a ton of confidence about UC getting into a better conference anytime soon.

He didn't seem to project a ton of confidence with the coaching search after Butch left in terms of time frame...I'd like to play poker with Whit!

I didn't get that at all. I think he just doesn't want to talk about it. He's walking the fine line between touting the Big East and wanting to get into another league. He wants us to be "leaders" on an upward trajectory. I didn't see a lack of confidence at all...it's just not beneficial to publicly state that "we want out and think this will help us get out".

Exactly. He's in a very difficult position right now. As it stands, there's no guarantee that a better conference invite is imminent. Every time he starts talking about other conferences, it just makes it more difficult to deal with the conference mates he has now. And make no mistake, the current conference mates have serious trust issues. Even though fans want to hear him radiate confidence about a better conference invite, it's not necessarily in the university's best interests.

Agree with dp. There's no real upside for UC to be talking about it publicly. The right answer is simply that UC is committed to playing at the highest level of college football as proven by our recent announcements and leave it at that.

I guess when he says things like "We'll adjust our pricing accordingly" when talking about having a crap slate of home games v. mid-majors like SMU, Houston, Memphis, UCF and Tulane, it makes me think they're already planning on having to slash prices in order to get people to show up.

They need something very simple like they did for Belk ticket donations for smaller donations.

I took the "adjusting prices" as simply waiting to see supply and demand for some considerably more pricey "new seats" i.e. boxes, suites, etc. That's different than talking about slashing prices for rest of bleachers and other seats

In the presser, Whit said they are going to seek donations of "6, 7 and 8 figures" immediately with opportunities to donate at all levels later. Priority for the seating will also go to those making the big donations.

Welp, they're going to be really disappointed with the donation request I submitted...

Exactly. Schools like UConn look pretty foolish when they publicly proclaim how much they want out of their existing conference. UConn's been saying it ever since Pitt and Syracuse left, and it hasn't gotten them anything.

Agree, make the best situation regardless of conference. I also wish people would stop bashing Houston, SMU, ECU, Boise State, and SDSU. They are roughly equal to or better than Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse, and a lot of the current ACC. Outside of losing WVU and Louisville those other schools were just schools on the football field. Get over the C-USA stigma and realize that this isn't 1998 anymore. I hope people viewing Cincinnati for the outside don't cast judgment on our program because of where we used to be.

If there was any interest among television networks to pay money for Houston, SMU, ECU and SDSU, they would have:

A. Been snatched up by some other conference already, not dangling and waiting for realignment to finally reach rock-bottom levels

B. Made enough money on media rights deals for their old conferences to not require an immediate leap at the first other conference that came offering.

They're garbage. By associating with them, UC runs the risk of looking small-time.

The AD might have to be politically correct, but we don't. These programs stink, and the current financial structure of college football ensures that they'll never be anything more than they are right now unless the major conferences expand more rapidly and grow larger than anyone projects. UC might have a lifeline out the next time the merry go round starts -- it'll take an amusement park full of merry-go-rounds before any self respecting conference even considers adding SMU, Houston, ECU or SDSU.
