There is no team in the new Big East with any potential draw.
It wasn't that UC couldn't make money. They couldn't make MORE money than at Nippert.
Straight from the AD's mouth...UC lost in excess of $500,000 playing the two games at PBS. Almost all of this was advertising monies.
I have been a proponent of playing games at PBS in the past, but the advertising thing needs to be corrected before we approach that idea again.

They lost $500K in revenue, not $500K by playing the games there.

RE: EXCLUSIVE: Sneak peek at UC's plans for Nippert revamp
From GoBearcats.com:
Quote:Two years ago with two games against Louisville and West Virginia held at Paul Brown, the Bearcats drew about 48k and 42k to those two games. They took a loss of greater than $100,000 on those two compared to what they would have drawn at a sold out Nippert Stadium.
http://www.gobearcats.com/blog/2012/12/d...brown.html
$100K less revenue/profit than what they would have had if those games would have been played at Nippert. Not that they didn't make money...

On Fri night Whit said they lost $700,000 in revenue.

I thought it was more than the $500,000 that I used but I erred on the conservative side. Either way, it is a large chunk of change.

Well... who to believe? Their own article from December directly contradicts that.

The reason I posed the number (maybe I misheard him) was b/c I thought it was 500K initially, which I gathered from the article.
I am a little confused, because depending on who I am talking to the number seems to change.

It doesn't matter if UC lost $700,000, $500,000, or $10 on the Louisville/WVU games at PBS. The point is UC lost money on those games and that is reason enough to never permanently move the program downtown.

Just to clarify (apologies if this is already fully understood by all), beyond the amount, the issue seems to be whether UC:
- actually lost money with those PBS games
- (made money but) made less than they would have with a sellout at Nippert (which could also be described as "lost money" but in a different context).
Based upon what I've read and heard, I think there is a good liklihood that UC actually made money but didn't make as much as they would have for a Nippert sellout (due in large part to advertising issues).

First, once again, they didn't "lose" money. They had unrealized revenue. That being said, the discussion was whether to move down to PBS for 1 season during construction.

That is exactly true. It is what Whit said after being hired, and then repeated in the link above.

Yes, so do NOT move downtown for a season! Either way we cannot afford any loss in revenue and the empty stadium would set back the program for years! Our schedule in the New Big East would be a horrific draw away from campus. We have NO regional teams to bring anyone, student attendance would drop and there would be little reason for anyone to buy a season ticket who does not already have one.
